Sweaters for summer

Sweaters for summer? I know you must be thinking that I am nuts, but hear me out. Light weight, breezy sweaters are perfect for summer outings and layering for summer nights. I am also really digging sweater vests for summer, such an easy way to look chic. This 1×1 Pocket Cardigan by Splendid is cute, this picture shows how it could work well for a cooler summer night. It would also be great for day with a short sleeve shirt, bermuda shorts, chunky necklace, and metallic strappy sandals. Love this look!

Another great way to make sweater work for summer is to do something really sheer, then put on a bright tank top underneath it. I like the Textured Rib LS Hoodie by Splendid for this look. It would be great over a swimsuit, or even with something warmer underneath it for cooler weater.

Another great light weight summer sweater option is the Loose Knit 3/4 Sleeve Tie Hoodie by Splendid. I love the oatmeal color and the sleeve length is perfect for warmer weather. The banded bottom with tie gives this sweater a more casual laid back look which pairs perfectly for summer.

Trend Alert: Pattern

In fashion, color, pattern, and texture are all a part of the current trend and this spring we are seeing more and more pattern. Some big, some small, but pattern and lots of it. There is anything from floral, to the newer watery effect dresses that many celebrities have recently been spotted wearing. If you are someone who sticks to the basic solids, now is the time to dip your toe into the fun world of pattern. Something that is not too scary to try is black and white pattern, I really like the leafy almost damask print of this Belted Ruffle Top from Sweet Peaby Staci Frati. Just having pattern on top draws the eye up to your face and the flattering built in belt really creates or accentuates curves.

 If you are feeling a bit more bold, try an all over pattern. This Chapel Dress by Velvet has a gorgeous pattern that isn’t too overwhelming and comes in two different color combinations that are both flattering, either black and white or red and white.

No matter what your pattern style may be, remember my number one rule: if you aren’t comfortable and confidant in what you are wearing, it won’t look good. So make choices that work for you and not the model in the picture. Now tell me, are you an all over pattern the more the merry type of gal, or a small hits of pattern here and there type of gal?? Me, it depends on my mood!

Jewelry Now Available at Vintage Fringe

Accessories are a great way to add a little “fringe” to  your everyday look, an now Vintage Fringe is proud to offer custom jewelry.  Up and coming jewelry designer Rosanne Follman is designing “one of a kind” pieces inspired for the vintage fringe fashionistas out there.  Each piece is designed and made by Rosanne Follman herself and they truly are “one of a kind”.  Rosanne Follmans’ design sensibility coupled with her passion for owning and creating unique  jewlery makes her a perfect edition to Vintage Fringe’s select designers.  Below are some of my favorite pieces that are currently available.

I love how this necklace layers in the three strands which are all completely unique. The colors featured in this necklace are a brown, orange, silver, and copper.  The chain is a copper chain- which makes this piece especially unique.

I just love these adorable earings. Featuring a soft blue mother of pearl oval stone in the center, this earing is layered with a silver hoop.  This kind of dangly earing is a great statement to wear without a necklace and with your hair down.

Skin that glows

Summer hits and the fashions get smaller, which means more skin. I don’t know about you, but I prefer a bit of a glow for the summer months, it makes you look smaller, your teeth whiter, and can hide all sorts of veins and cellulite{of course you don’t have any of those!} With all the research out there full on sun bathing just doesn’t work for me, I don’t want skin cancer and I want my face to look as close to what it does now in 20 years as possible. Enter the fake tan. There are loads of different products out there, it is pretty overwhelming, so I will just highlight a few that I have tried. Please tell me what works for you, I am always on the look out for better options!

Kate Hudson giving us some glow-inspiration. First off are the Somer360° Tanning Towelettes by Kate Somerville. What I love about the towelettes is that they are so convenient, you can pack them anywhere they are so small and they are really easy to use. They give a nice glow and the color is build-able, i.e. you can continue to use the towelettes until you have achieved your level of tan, whether that be brazilian goddess or subtle glow.

This next product is one that I have been using for years, the Self Tan Bronzing Lotion by St. Tropez. This product goes on really dark, which is great because you can tell where you have already placed it. Then, the access color just rinses off in the shower. I apply it at night, then shower in the morning and it always looks natural. I even get comments like I have been spending more time at the pool-shhh! Don’t tell my secret!

One other handy little product that I love is the Leg Shine by Michael Kors. It doesn’t add a ton of color, but it adds some shine to your current color and really makes legs look great, and who doesn’t want great look legs?? It is lightly tinted and smells awesome. It is super fast to apply, just roll up your leg, which is even better for busy women.

Warmer weather means more light and breezy fashions and what better way to stay cool and stay chic then in a cute little dress. Dresses are so easy to just pull on and go and with so many different styles, there is something that flatters everyone. I also love how dresses can so easily go form day to night with a simple change of accessories, perfect for the over scheduled fashionista on the go! This dress is Ella Moss’ Hollie Racerback Maxi Dress available at Vintage Fringe.  I guess I shouldn’t be suprised Angelina loves this dress, it is made of the softest supima cotton.  I also love this crochet neck-line that features a sort of floral detail.  This dress is also one of the most flattering long dresses, because of the empire waist detail.

Color Obsession: Yellow

With spring comes warmer weather and lighter and brighter colored clothes. I love all the bright and cheery colors and this season I am especially loving the sunshine yellow that seems to be showing up everywhere. This color is great for tops, skirts, dresses, shoes, handbags, where ever you want to add a pop of color. This Heart Button Cardigan by Joy Joy is so sweet and with 3/4 length sleeves it is the perfect piece for spring and cool summer nights.

If you live in a warmer climate or are just looking for something more summery, try the Hollie Crew Top by Ella Moss. Shoe Trend: Wedges!

Fashion mimics itself so often, and just like maxi dresses have returned, so have wedges. This summer you will see wedges with studs, stones, straps and other sparkling additions as they get ramped up for 2010. I personally love wedges, they usually offer more comfort then a regular pump and are so easily dressed down or dressed up. Here are a few that showcase the different trends with wedges for summer 2010. First we have this gorgeous metallic Getby by Nine West. Notice the straps, this is a nod to the gladiator trend that is still ragging in sandals. I love metallic, goes well with everything! Seriously consider this gold a neutral, love it!

This Mosaic sandal by Charles by Charles David is oh so pretty and perfect for a more bohemian look. All the different colored studs really add some fringe to this sandal as well as making them go with just about anything. {If you haven’t noticed, I am all about shoes that can work with a lot of different things!}

The menswear trend is still alive and kicking in women’s shoes and this Tulua by DV by Dolce Vita is a fun way to incorporate that look for summer. I love the lacing detail on the front and the zipper on the back for quick and easy access.

Lastly, and I know this look is a bit more forward, but I saw this Dina Caged Wedge Sandal by N.Y.L.A. and I was mesmerized. The rock ‘ roll, studs, grommets, and straps are all so fantastic. I imagine this with boyfriend shorts and a v-neck t-shirt for day and with a bright colored pencil skirt, black loose tank, and blazer for night. If you are looking for some adventure{or just attention} these shoes are sure to deliver. These shoes also come in white and tan, which are equally fabulous.

Trendy Tanks from Sweet Pea by Staci Frati

I might be jumping the gun a bit to already be blogging about tank tops, but the weather is so beautiful today, I am feeling the need to feature some adorable designer tanks designed by Sweet Pea.  Sweet Pea’s vivid patterns are a signature look at any time of the year but especially spring/summer these bold colors will help any gal stand out- in the best kind of way.

This Sleeveless Front Tie Top is adorable and the cut is really flattering on everyone.  I also really love this print- it is a dark navy background.  The neck ties make it fully adjustable and allows you to decide how to adjust the neckline.  As always this top is in Sweet Pea’s trademark mesh-nylon.

This solid blue 4-Tier  Ruffle Tank by Sweet Pea is favorite of mine.  While sweet pea mostly designs bold prints, this tank comes in solid blue (rain) or fuschia (cranapple).  I love how the 4-tiered ruffles makes this tank simple but trendy and feminine.  This tank is a perfect to stand alone piece but also looks great paired with a cardigan (see below).

Splendid’s Stripes

Stripes are everywhere this season, from handbags to blouses, stripes are making a fashion statement for spring and summer. Most women{myself included} probably have heard at some point that wearing stripes horizontally makes your body look wider. This is false! Well, let me clarify that, some stripes may do that, but not most. Focus on a great fit and stripes that hit your body in the right area and stripes can actually make you look smaller! That’s right, you heard me, they can actually make you look slimmer. Now that I have your attention, look at these Splendid tops that are perfect and striped! This 2×1 White Stripe Hoodie by Splendid {these people know their stripes!} is a great fit with a banded bottom, which is always figure flattering and buttons down the front that would be great open to show off a cute tank underneath. The 3/4 length sleeves are ideal for the weather right now and the hood adds a bit of a fun, casual vibe to this top.

Lastly, look at the Variegated Stripe Loose Jersey Wrap by {you guessed it} Splendid. I loved the variegated stripes on this wrap, and wraps are so great because they can be worn with so many different things for so many different looks. With the economy how it is, it is nice to have something that can really work for casual, dressed up, or even a cover up.
