Clothes for Winter: Bundle Up in Style!

Clothes for Winter: Bundle Up in Style! It’s that time of year again when the seasons start to change and you start looking for the perfect pieces for Fall and Winter.  Overall, every good winter wardrobe should include at least a few of the following pieces to be trendy this season.  This winter some of the big trends include: cropped sweaters, long cardigans, tunic length tops or dresses, and leggings.  Here are a few of our favorite pieces at Vintage Fringe for great clothes for winter.

The Aspen Motorcycle Sweater by one of our favorite designers Velvet by Graham and Spencer is absolutely one of our must haves this winter.  This cropped sweater features an off center zipper and zippered pockets.  We love the button detail at the shoulder and the wide collar with a zipper from top to bottom.  The cropped sweater look is totally in this season and we love it as it is such a modern feminine look.  We love pairing this top with a longer shirt underneath as contrasting shirt lengths are another great trend this season.

In the long cardigan category we love wearing both buttoned cardigans and loose cardigans.  One of our favorites is the Rayon Slub Jersey Cardigan by Splendid.  We love love love the fabric their rayon slub jersey feels absolutely luxurious and we love the flowing look of the cardigan in front.  For alternate looks we sometimes even knot the cardigan at the waist for a more fitted look.

One of our favorite tunic length dresses is the Retro Boatneck dress by Sweet Pea by Stacy Frati.  We love the vintage pattern in vibrant colors and the tie around the waist that can tie in front or in back.  This dress is so versatile that it works year round with or without leggings.   With a boatneck neckline, this tunic is distinctive and a great addition to any wardrobe this season.

As for leggings, many people have avoided the trend, waiting to see how much staying power leggings had, but it is safe to say that this winter they are here to stay.  This season you’re even seeing denim leggings.  Leggings are a must have this winter and pair well with ballet flats or boots.  Our stylists recommend having a few pairs of leggings in staple colors like Black, Grey and then mix in other colors according to your color preferences.  We are always on the look out for navy and brown leggings too although they are more splurge colors than staples.   At Vintage Fringe, we’re partial to the Swoosie leggings from Velvet by Graham and Spencer currently available in both Grey and Black.

All of these winter clothes pair very well with boots which of course will be all the rage this winter.   You’ll see a lot of the knee high length boots this winter which will be the perfect complement to those cropped sweaters or tunic length dresses with or without leggings.  You can be sure that each of these pieces is modern, but is not going to be a fad for only one season, which in the current economy makes sprucing up your wardrobe with these pieces far more economical.

Fashionable Fall Satchels and Totes

Fashion designers recognize that with fall we need more space in our bags, for school, work, and a host of other activities that we are involved in from day to day. More and more very chic and fashionable satchels and totes are available for all of our carrying needs. I love that you can find a larger tote or satchel in just every about every style out there, so no matter if you like plain, printed, embellished or sparkly, there is a bag for you! Lets start with the Oryany ‘Gwen – Vintage North/South’ Crossbody Satchel. This is perfect for someone who prefers a more plain style, but with all the details and different options for carrying, this satchel doesn’t disappoint.

Getting a leg up on Fall Fashion

Fall and winter fashion are all about layers for me, and what is better staple piece and layering item them leggings?? Leggings are so great because they can be worn in a million different ways to make a million different looks. I love leggings tucked into boots, or worn with booties and a tunic length top. Velvet by Graham and Spencer, who are known for their ultra soft and comfortable fabrics have a fabulous pair of knit leggings, the Swoosie. {Wouldn’t love to know where that name came from??} They are the perfect pair to start your looks with, available in dark grey or black.

I don’t know about the rest of you, but is supposed to hit the 90’s this weekend, so I am still very much into summer clothes. Especially summer clothes that will transition into fall and winter outfits. Enter the Lace Trim Stripe Tank by Collective Concepts, it is obviously perfect for summer just by itself. But imagine it with a coordinating  color long sleeve shirt underneath it for fall, and a cropped leather jacket on top for winter, so chic!

Another great piece for layering, is an open cardigan. I love to wear an open cardigan with leggings, because then I can wear a shorter shirt and the open cardigan is long enough to cover my behind. The Cotton Bamboo Cardigan by Splendid is great because is has short sleeves, making it perfect for layering and lasting though all the seasons.

So enjoy the weather where ever you are and whatever it is and remember layering pieces are perfect now and perfect later. It all starts with the perfect pair of leggings!

Online Boutique: Clothing and Fashion

Online Boutique: Clothing and FashionThe clothing boutique is so alluring.  Many of us dream of days spent doing nothing other than bouncing from boutique to boutique to check out their newest arrivals with our bestest girlfriends.  Let’s be honest, this is far more of a dream than a reality.  If you’re at all like me, I always struggle to find the time to dedicate to such fashion scavenger hunts.  However, that has all changed as soon as I discovered the benefits and convenience of shopping for boutique clothing fashion online.

In fact, we started Vintage Fringe to meet this exact need.  We wanted to bring the benefits of boutique shopping online.  We were sick and tired of buying a top at a chain store only to see many of our friends wearing the same thing.  For example, last summer I attended a wedding and one of the other bridesmaids was wearing an identical denim jacket from the same chain store!  Disgusted with this type of trend, we decided to open an online boutique that provides many of the same boutique benefits with far less of the hassle.

First of all, it goes without saying that an online boutique is far more convenient.  You can shop on your hours, not the store’s. (And let’s face it-boutiques are notorious for having inconvenient hours.)  You don’t have to fight for parking.  You can shop at home in your pajamas.  You can shop at work or at home and frankly sometimes even on your cell phone or iPad.  You can often find more easily niche items online if you know exactly what you want.  At Vintage Fringe, we even offer free shipping and free returns on all non-outlet items, and yes we even have an outlet featuring major fashion bargains.  We also can’t forget that when you shop online you don’t have to worry about those annoying sales people bothering you as you shop!

Secondly, online boutique clothing fashion is typically far more niche and distinctive in terms of what online boutiques carry versus large department stores that often may not even carry the designers you are searching for or if they do they may have so many pieces that you run the risk of having all of your friends wearing the same piece.  Boutiques often offer you harder to find designers and do not carry as much inventory as larger stores so you are frequently much more able to find a distinctive, individual look for yourself.

Finally, shopping online allows you to compare multiple sites with far less work than shopping at boutiques in person.  There are many sites online that allow you to search a variety of different sites based on specific things like designers, colors, sizes, or even descriptions of the styles.  This ability to comparison shop in a far more convenient way will make shopping far more efficient than bouncing from boutique to boutique.

We think you’ll agree that once you discover online boutique shopping you will quickly find that it is much simpler and far more convenient than the dedication and time required to complete your own boutique shopping scavenger hunt!

Fall Trend: Rose Gold Watches

With new fall fashion in stores, there is also fabulous fall accessories. One trend that celebrities have picked up is rose gold watches. Rose gold is a beautiful color that is more flattering then silver or gold for most skin types. I love how versatile rose gold is, complementing all different types of jewelry. The ultra fashionable Mary Kate Olsen is showing us how rose gold and black can make even a grocery store look like a runway.

Almost every major watch brand has a rose gold watch. The beauties shown below are: Nixon ’42-20′ Chronograph Watch, DKNY Rose Gold Watch, Michael Kors ‘Jet Set Sport – Crystal Set’ Chronograph Watch, Michael Kors Rectangle Case Chronograph Watch, D&G ‘Anchor’ Bracelet Watch.   I personally love the D & G watch with the black face, so chic right?? All of these would be fabulous with the bold looks of the fall 2010 fashion trends.

Fall Makeup Trends

Fall 2010 makeup trends are following fashion trends with some bold looks. Bright, deep colors, dual-toned eyes, and strong brows and lips were what ruled the runway. I love playing with different makeup trends because it is so easy to simply switch out an eyeshadow or lipstick and feel completely on trend. For fall there is lots of purple, from plum to more of electric it is on nails, lips, and eyes.

Purple and Plum Perfection!

Purple and Plum Perfection!

The purple and plum makeup is NARS Eyeshadow in Daphne , Sephora Collection Beauty in a box Purple Smoky Eyes, Fresh Sugar Plum Lip Treatment SPF 15, YSL Rogue Volupté Perle in Mesmerizing Purple, and Revlon Dark Pleasure Limited Edition Nail Polish.

Red lips

Red lips were all over the runways, they are a bold and daring look that can complement many different fashions. I love a red lip because it is instant attention and drama. Try one of the products shown above for some fiery lips, Nars Jungle Red lipstick, Tarte Lipsurgence Natural Matte Lip Stain in Fiery, and Korres Raspberry Antioxidant Liquid Lipstick in Red.

Natural Beauty soft and sheer makeup

If you don’t quite have the courage for the red lips, go for another big look for fall which is natural beauty. Soft, sheer, and neutral makeup that is perfect for any occasion and any outfit. Try Urban Decay Naked Eyeshadow Palette, Too Faced Naked Eye Soft & Sexy Eyeshadow Collection, and NARS Blush in Orgasm. Enjoy fall fashions and makeup trends and try something new! {But please don’t forget to share with me what you tried and how you like it!}

Shop Online for Designer Clothes

Shop online For Designer Clothing You’ve probably heard on the news lately the statistics about how more and more people are shopping online for clothing.  Of course, shopping online for designer clothing is no exception to this statistic.   If you’re new to the online shopping arena, let me explain a few reasons why it is advantageous to shop online for designer clothes.

First, shopping online is more convenient.  You don’t have to fight for parking, you don’t have to wait in lines, you don’t have to check multiple stores to find out the lowest price and which store has what sizes or colors, you don’t have to chase your kids around the store or even find time to drive to the store during their hours.  The online channel is truly revolutionizing shopping for designer clothes.  When you shop online, you can do so in your pajamas in the convenience of your own home (or even at work) once your kids have gone to bed or if even late at night when you can’t sleep.  Many online sites even offer free returns which can save you another trip to the store to return your item.

Second, shopping online is often cheaper.  For designer clothes specifically, you can find a variety of comparison shopping sites that will allow you to compare prices and sizes and colors for multiple stores at once.  Such sites allow you to quickly scour the internet for deals on designer clothing and can frequently find sites offering free shipping.  One of our favorites is Like.com, which allows you to name your designer, a type of clothing, or a color or size that you are looking for and will return a variety of great results based on your search terms.   You can also be on the lookout for sites with coupon codes for many online retailers that allow you to find additional discounts.

Third, shopping online often allows you the ability to find niche designer clothing items.  Perhaps it is that Chloe purse that is sold out at the mall, but still available at an online boutique store, or that pair of jeans that you know your size in and don’t want to try and chase down at the mall.  You can also more easily find niche designers online as well.  For example, at Vintage Fringe, we carry pieces from designers such as Laurie B. or Joy Joy that you would struggle to find in stores.   The expansiveness of searching on a global level when searching online allows you to find much greater selection than shopping in your local department stores if you know what you are looking for.

In short, if you’re someone who knows which designers you love and wants to find more designer clothes than what your local department store may carry, be sure to shop online.  I’m sure you will discover that shopping online for designer clothes is much more convenient, often more affordable, and easier to locate pieces once you know what you have in mind.  At Vintage Fringe, we offer year round free shipping for all non-outlet items, free returns for all non-outlet items, and shop by color, price and designer options.  We purposely try to carry designer clothes that are high quality and are not found at every other department store or boutique.  Our goal is to always have your friends asking “Where did you get that?”

Velvet by Graham and Spencer

Velvet by Graham and SpencerVelvet by Graham and Spencer has become one of our signature lines at Vintage Fringe.  Designers Jenny Graham and Toni Spencer started this contemporary casual collection with a desire to mix quality, comfort and yet still maintain a distinctive fashion style.  This philosophy is found in all of Velvet’s pieces.   While Velvet by Graham and Spencer is a contemporary T-shirt collection, a majority of their pieces are far more than simple T-Shirts.    Made with a range of soft and wearable fabrics including baby jersey knits, slinky rayon, and even cashmere, the combination of different fabrics and distinctive styles and designs gives Velvet’s line a broad distinction from other lines.

Velvet has a variety of constant fabrics that you can always rely on to provide comfortable and fashionable looks.  Here are a few of our favorites:

Velvet’s Baby Jersey collection features a super soft jersey knit fabric and of course is machine washable.  Velvet features their basics within this fabric and then also offers their Novelty pieces which include feminine touches and more contemporary looks.   Another Velvet constant is their Gauzy whisper collection.  Made of thinner knit fabric that is sheerer than the thicker baby jersey fabrics, the Gauzy whisper pieces often feature raw hem edges and often include rucheing or gathered fabric incorporated into various aspects of the tops.  One of our absolute favorites is the Slinky Rayon collection by Velvet.  Made of a luxurious feeling Rayon, the Slinky Rayon collection often features more contemporary styles that exude contemporary femininity. Slinky rayon pieces feature fewer colors, but deep, rich colors such as black, navy, some type of an awesome silver color, and often a wine purple color.   Slinky rayon is dry clean only, but oh so worth it!

Some of our best sellers at Vintage Fringe are Velvet pieces including the Kelisha tank, a long tank top, which is part of Velvet’s Baby Jersey collection.  Featuring a length that is difficult to find in most tanks, this tank hits our 5’7” model about mid-thigh.  This is the perfect piece to layer under the ever popular tunic tops right now and works great with leggings.    Another great piece by Velvet is one of our newer arrivals at Vintage Fringe the Marni Slub Dress.  This dress features a cowlneck at the top, wide short sleeves, a drawstring waist and pockets on the front at waist level. Made of their winter slub fabric it includes a heavier slub fabric that still feels ultra luxurious and oh so stylish.  It is still 100% cotton, but has some texture to it and is machine washable.

In short, we are confident that you will fall in love with Velvet by Graham and Spencer just as we have.  We love the contemporary look and while some of the pieces are basics, we think you’ll agree that high quality pieces may be more expensive, but often outlast their cheaper counterparts.  Not to mention that when Velvet does go modern and incorporate distinctive trends such as ruffles or tunic length tops, their tops are absolutely stunning.  For all of these reasons, Velvet by Graham and Spencer should be one of your wardrobe staples.

Sweet Pea Women’s Blouses

Sweet Pea Women’s BlousesSweet Pea Women’s Blouses are some of our favorite things!  The Sweet Pea by Stacy Frati line provides a great contrast to many of the other plain vanilla, traditional, boring lines with basic colors and fabrics.  Sweet Pea’s signature patterned designs on their signature nylon mesh fabric provides the ultimate distinctive comfort top.  We love the nylon mesh fabric which does not cling and is also super flattering and forgiving on all figures.  We also love the patterns!  Stacy Frati always makes sure that she has vibrant, colorful patterns with a feminine flair on just about every piece.   Sweet Pea’s patterns range from floral, feminine paisley, polka dots or even Asian inspired designs.  We love the bold colors and the contrast that is evident in every patterned Sweet Pea top.  You’re sure to love the versatility of each piece as well.  Sweet Pea blouses can easily transition from the board room to the soccer field for the different aspects of the modern woman’s life.

One of the other great things about the Sweet Pea line is that the styles are also extremely flattering.  Many of the classic Sweet Pea styles include fluid sleeves, often with feminine details such as a slit down the shoulder or a ruffle sleeve.  Another frequent detail is contrasting colors for the lining of the top.  Stacy Frati frequently plays with these contrasting colors and often has a contrasting hem on many tops. Sweet Pea styles also frequently include women’s blouses which feature great feminine styles including empire waists which often flair at the waist or ruching.  Alternatively, many styles also include more fitted styles featuring scoop necks or contrasting colors or patterns on the hem or sleeves.   Sweet Pea also frequently has great maxi dresses and sexy tank tops.   Designer Stacy Frati always makes sure to include lots of ruffles and feminine touches.   Sweet Pea’s fabric is distinctive too and is extremely comfortable and easy to wear.  It is relatively wrinkle free compared to traditional cottons and is still washable, although a tad more delicate than your basic cottons.

In today’s current market, Sweet Pea also stands out as a great line with extreme versatility.  It works well for the casual weekend and also is classy enough to wear at the office or dressy enough for a night out.  This versatility makes Sweet Pea’s women’s blouses a great buy when your clothing budget is tapped out which we all can appreciate in the current economy.

Of course this plenty of celebrity buzz about the Sweet Pea line too.  The Sweet Pea by Stacy Frati line has been featured on a variety of celebrities including the likes of Kate Hudson, Keri Russell, and Bonnie Hunt to name a few.    In short, we love Sweet Pea women’s blouses because they are truly great versatile pieces that work well for the everyday girl and the celebrity in all of us.  You really can have a flattering feminine style with exciting patterns and contrasting details that will make each of these tops statement pieces in your wardrobe for all facets of your life while still being easy to wear.
