Striped Shift Dress

Striped Shift Dress

The Mini Dress is making a comeback in fashion trends and when combined with Tunic tops or dresses that have also made a comeback, there really hasn’t been a better time to add a few mini dresses to your wardrobe.  The Mini Dress works great for long leg body types and for those of us who may not want to show that much leg all the time, the mini dress also looks great paired with leggings.  Adding leggings to the mini dress also makes many of them more versatile for colder temperatures and a great way to maximize your wardrobe with multiple ways to wear them.  The classic look of a mini dress with tall boots is also another great way to blend current fashion trends. Certainly, there is no shortage of great mini dresses, but consider a few of these mini dresses as some of our favorite mini dresses this season.

The Striped Shift Dress by indie designer Sunday in Brooklyn is a great example of a classic retro style shift dress with modern fashion style and an example of a dress that looks great with boots, heels or leggings. This mini shift dress also features another classic fashion trend with the stripes.  The dress features a short sleeve, scoop neckline and a simple, yet sophisticated shift dress style.  The dress features contrasting zippers on both the left and right hem of the dress for added detail a touch that makes us love the dress even more.

Ikat Tie Neck Dress by Sweet Pea by Stacy Frati

Ikat Tie Neck Dress

Another Mini Dress is the Ikat Tie Neck Dress by Sweet Pea by Stacy Frati.  This dress also exudes that retro look and looks like a classic dress you would have seen with go go boots in the 60s/70s.  The dress features a tie collar at the neck that ties in back with a keyhole closure.  The dress features long sleeves which makes it a perfect fall/winter piece.  The pattern showcases a blend of pinks, browns, blues and greens which gives you lots of accessorizing options.  The body of the dress is a classic shift dress style as well and it hits mid-thigh as a true mini dress. Naturally, this dress also works well with leggings and boots.

Continuing with the pseudo-shift dress theme, we also love the Owl Mini Shift Dress by Tulle.  With a ruffle sleeve that is cap sleeve length and an adorable bird print that we think looks like owls on it this dress is flirty, playful and super stylish.  Each of these dresses while variations of shift dresses all have very different styles and give you a variety of different looks depending on what your style preference is.

Tunic Shirt Dress

When I think of an easy warm weather outfit, my mind immediately turns to a tunic shirtdress. Not only is it effortless, but also it can be styled in numerous ways to keep your look fresh.

One perfect example of a shirtdress that is perfect for right now and transitioning into fall months is the Vika Button Down Dress for Velvet by Graham and Spencer. This easy dress features buttons from top to bottom down the center and is lined with a spaghetti strap tank dress underneath. The sleeves are secured up by a button but can also be worn down if preferred or in cooler weather. The dress is a looser fit but it brings shape in with a tie at the waist. It comes in two colors: Yam, which is a coral tone, or Safari, which is a brown tone. This dress can be easily dressed up with a pair of heels and nice jewelry or can be worn with flat sandals for a more casual appeal. It is a great cotton shirting fabric so is breathable and truly does fit the bill for a great shirt dress.

Another great example of an easy shirtdress is the Sammy Long Sleeve Belted Dress for Velvet by Graham and Spencer. This dress features an amazing pattern adding contrast by bringing in a grey tie belt at the waist. The neckline is a deep v-neck adding a bit of sexiness to this fun look. It is perfect worn as a dress or thrown over leggings such as our Ritzy legging in grey. Of course, don’t forget about other great details like the pockets on the sides and the great Jellybean green pattern.

Consider also one of our most popular tunic shirt dresses, the Ivonne Maldives Striped Tunic Dress by designer Velvet by Graham and Spencer that can easily be paired with leggings, boots or pants but can also be worn as a flirty dress. If this dress were shorter, it would be the perfect basic Tee Shirt, but with the added length this tunic dress really does typify a great tunic shirt dress. The dress has a boatneck and long sleeves and of course with the great stripes and trim around the cuffs and collar in Rock, a smokey grey color, which looks great on the white fabric background. This tunic short dress would also look great with high boots and a belt and of course great jewelry. It is a jersey cotton blend so it is also casual and comfortable to wear.

A shirtdress is a great addition to any woman’s closet. Like the ones I mentioned, they are so versatile and can be worn in a number of ways making them an effortless and easy addition to any closet. Many of these dresses could also be worn in fall or colder weather and not just in sprint or summer. Like pretty much all tunics, they are so stylish and really can transcend seasons and also work with so many different types of accessories.

Button-Down Blouse

When I think “button-down” blouse, I think boring, stiff work shirts that no one wants to wear, but has to. Vintage Fringe is currently carrying a button-down top that is NOTHING like what I just described. The Boyfriend Stripe Long Sleeved Button-up Top will change the way you think about button-up blouses for good.

We’ve featured this top in our blog before, but cannot help that it is worth discussing again! This piece by Splendid is a loose fitting, cotton and silk blend that is as stunning as it is easy to wear. It is a fun twist on the sheer tank that makes it perfect to layer over top of a tank or bandeau. It’s lightweight fabric and navy/black color combination allows for a lot of versatility!

One example of a fun way to mix this piece into your wardrobe is by throwing it on over jeans, adding some fun ankle boots and layering jewelry to finish it off. (See our model for inspiration!) If you are looking for a dressier look, tucking this top into a pencil skirt or wearing it with a black suit would be perfect for any day at the office.

Another, more casual, take on a button down is our Darvey Long Sleeve Button-up Tunic Top by Velvet.  This top is part of Velvet’s baby jersey collection and is super soft making it perfect for mixing into your wardrobe as the temperatures get cooler.  It is cotton and super comfortable. It is also unique enough to stand on its own, but can also be utilized as a layerable piece when you need a few extra layers. This top pairs perfectly with the Kelisha long tank top by Velvet that is the same length and can be worn in an number of great accent colors that would work well with the Darvey top.  For a similar style to the Darvey top, you can also check out the Aria top which features the same style as the Darvey top, but a heathered jersey cotton fabric with added contrast.  Both tops look great with leggings and of course can always be worn with jeans.

The Emalee top by Velvet by Graham and Spencer features a shirred muslin voile ruffle with a scoop neckline. We love the flirty button up v neck in the midst of the ruffles and the faux rolled up sleeves. The partial button-up detail is naturally accented by the ruffles and is a great way to add a feminine twist to an otherwise casual style top. This top is also part of the baby jersey collection so it is also soft and super comfortable.

Each of these button-down blouse options are certainly not your standard boring button-down blouse.  These tops range from dressy to casual and best of all each of them give you a distinctive look and really do transform basic and boring into feminine, flirty and fun pieces for your closet of course depending on your own personal style.

Floral Sundress

You always need a great go to floral sundress option for summer weather or for that perfect island vacation.  Of course floral sundresses come in a variety of styles, patterns and even colors so it is always a great way to find that perfect sundress that represents your individual style.  Here are a few examples of great floral sundresses that may just be the perfect floral sundress for you.

First the Mod Retro Dress or Tunic features a short length so for someone who likes to wear short dresses it works for that or alternatively if you prefer it as more of a tunic it pairs perfectly with black leggings.  The floral pattern here features a black foundation with flowers that feature bold, bright colors like purples, blues, pinks, oranges and even white on a modern floral pattern.   Of course continuing the modern style, the tunic features a black center stripe and trim that caps off the Sweet Pea Rupert pattern and the A line adding to the retro look. Another great feature with this dress is the fabric is 100% Nylon Mesh which designer Stacy Frati utilizes because of its breathability in warm, humid weather. It truly is a great sundress for summer.

Next, if you prefer a more traditional style dress, but still love the Rupert floral pattern, consider the Sweet Pea Retro Boatneck Dress.  This sundress features the same pattern, but with a different style.  Featuring a boatneck and short sleeves, this dress is both distinctive and stylish. The dress also features a tie belt sewn in at the sides to give it added fit and it can be styled however you prefer.  You have the option to tie it in front, back or on the side so you can mix it up however you prefer.  It also works well with leggings if you are looking for more versatility or style options.

Finally, consider the Cherry Cowl Neck Dress by designer Velvet by Graham and Spencer. This sundress features a beautiful floral pattern with blues and deep maroon colors.  The dress features short sleeves and a drape neckline in front.  The pattern shifts to a contrasting smaller tile pattern with blues and red on the back of this dress as well.  There is also a contrasting brown tie belt to give it more fit and style and features a comfortable, sheer cotton silk fabric blend that gives it a great airy summer style.  The bottom of the dress has a hint of flare to it giving it an added feminine touch.  This dress can also work well with leggings and is a great statement piece for any wardrobe.

As you can see, each of these floral sundresses features distinctive styles and patterns that are great options for that perfect summer sundress.  We love each of these dresses for different reasons, but they are all distinctive and versatile giving you a number of different options for wearing them beyond the summer season which certainly can’t hurt in today’s economy.  In short, you really can’t go wrong finding that perfect floral sundress as there are certainly a variety of great options in wearable fabrics that are sure to be a great addition to your wardrobe.

Pretty Crochet Dress

Pretty crochet dresses are great pieces for summer and can be welcome additions to your wardrobe.  Our favorite way to wear pretty crochet dresses is to find dresses with great pieces of crocheted details into beautiful dresses that make them even more intricate or feminine.  To illustrate a few great examples of this crocheted dress trend consider the following fabulous dresses as crocheted dress alternatives.

First, the Larina 3/4 sleeve dress by designer Velvet by Graham and Spencer.  This dress features a gorgeous crocheted pattern around the neckline that really sets this dress apart. The stitched pattern flows to a loose empire waistline. The dress features a deep scoop neck and the sleeves are flared and feature a loose elastic at the cuff of the 3/4 length sleeves.  The dress is a wonderful versatile dress that literally can work in summer, spring, fall and winter weather.  It is also available in great colors that you don’t see everyday like Truffle, Pistachio and Mink.

Next consider the Oma Cap Sleeve Dress also by Velvet.  This super feminine pretty dress features a cap sleeve with a ruffle.  The dress features a scoop neckline accented by a tie at the center and with a crocheted lace overlay around the bust.  The hem of the dress is accented by stiched lines around the base of the skirt and another strip of crocheted lace overlay as an added accent.  This dress is available in Flint, a grey color.  It is also part of Velvet’s Cotton Voile collection and features a lightweight cotton voile fabric that is a great, comfortable shirting fabric.

Finally our dresses wouldn’t be complete without a great maxi dress that utilizes crocheted lace.  The Hollie Racerback Maxi Dress by designer Ella Moss features crocheted lace embellishments around the neckline and shoulders.  It also features an empire waist and of course lives up the maxi name with a long length.  This dress really looks regal and is a gorgeous summer dress that is a true statement piece.  The crocheted lace details really sets this dress apart and makes it more exotic.  The dress also features a modal jersey blend fabric on the body of the dress that makes it ultra comfortable and wearable without sacrificing from the luxurious feel.  It is luxuriously comfortable.

As you can see from each of these dresses, the crocheted details really can take an elegant simple style dress and elevate it to another level.  Best of all, each of these dresses has the crocheted elements showcased in a way that keep the dress wearable and comfortable so it isn’t something you are worried about snagging or running,  Yet, you do want enough crochet detail to really set the dress apart and amp it up a bit.   Each of these dresses has a completely look and style, but each utilizes crocheted details in a way that really do help take each dress to another level and separate it from the typical dresses you might see this summer.

Fashion Summer Trend – Fuchsia Color Block Dress

This summer color block dresses are a huge fashion trend.  You can find them in a number of colors, but tonight we are focusing on Fuchsia in particular.  For those of you who may be new to Color Block clothing styles it is a current trend to pair complementary colors with blocks of one color and then a block of another color or pattern .  This is also done with large blocks of solid fabric not stripes which is a key distinction.  Frequently, we have seen fuchsias blended with plum color tones or darker colors like blacks, blues or greys.

One of my favorite color block dresses in fuchsia is the Tie Short Dress by designer Sweet Pea by Stacy Frati.  Sweet Pea as a whole incorporates a variety of patterns and bold colors in distinctive, stylish ways.  She consistently designs pieces with lots of bold, bright patterns and offsets or complements them with accenting solid colors for trim or even as solid contrast color lining underneath.  In this case, the Tie Short dress features a bold fuchsia pink and brown floral pattern.  As contrast, she uses solid brown for the ties at the waist and in the bodice and around the neckline.  Breaking up the pattern with color block for this particular style dress adds a bit of simplicity and elegance to the bold pattern which in turn creates a bold, more feminine look.  This dress features a gorgeous floral pattern with lots of color and fuchsia, purples, and coral and orange colors with brown weaved in.

Sweet Pea also designed a gorgeous top with Fuchsia color blocking around the neckline for added contrast, the Bell Sleeve Top features solid Fuchsia contrasted with a black and fuchsia scroll pattern.  This top is a great way to wear Fuchsia and we love the style of this top.  The v neck accented by the color block Fuschia and then the bell sleeves that add a bit of flair to this top.  Sweet Pea features a lot of Fuchsia in their patterns and their pieces are all so figure flattering and feminine.

Color blocking is a great way to make a dress look more slimming and can also break up a simple or drab dress or top with a bold pop of color. Particularly in the summer season, bold colors are a fashion trend all on their own.  Color blocks are a great way to invoke a retro look, or at a minimum a distinctive look into classic or traditionally styled pieces.  This season bold colors will be very popular and bright colors are great accent colors for added contrast.

As you can see, there are a number of great ways to incorporate color blocking and in particular to incorporate fuchsia into great styled pieces.  No matter what your personal preferences are you will find a number of great options that incorporate one of this season’s popular fashion trends – color blocking and with an added bonus in fuchsia.

Minimal White Dress

Now that we are safely past the Memorial Day deadline about wearing white, it is a perfect time to shop for the perfect white dress.  Of course many people choose not to follow the wear white only between Memorial Day and Labor Day, but I must admit that I still do stick to that rule.

If you are looking for a great minimal white dress, look no further than the Freda Gathered Waist dress by Velvet by Graham and Spencer.  The Freda dress features a gorgeous v neck complemented by a gathered waist and flared skirt.  The gathered waist does really do a great job of separating the top of the dress from the flared skirt to give it a very classic style dress.  It has an elegant vintage feel that looks like it just walked out of an Audrey Hepburn movie.  It also reminds us a bit of the dress Kate Middleton wore in her engagement photos, although in a different color.  The white dress is a stunning color and the color alone transforms practically any dress into a classy statement dress.  The dress is also lined with an added layer of baby jersey cotton fabric which is so helpful with a white dress to ensure that it isn’t too sheer.

If you are looking for a minimal white dress with some hints of color or contrasting pattern to it, consider the Chapel Dress by Velvet.  This gorgeous dress is an example of a classy yet bold statement dress featuring a black and white or a red and white pattern.  Part of Velvet’s Spanish Tile collection, naturally this dress features a tile pattern and a gorgeous fitted style with a v neck and a subtle knot at the center of the v neck.  This dress hits just at or below the knee and features short sleeves. Here white is the primary color accented by either a black or red tile pattern.  This dress has a simple fitted style and is a good minimalist white dress with pops of contrast color and pattern.

There are so many options for ways to incorporate white dresses into your closet.  If you still haven’t fournd something that interests you, there is always the option of utilizing a solid white top or skirt to accent  with contrasting colored or patterned pieces and accessories.   Personally, I love wearing the Freda dress in White with bold accessories in black or red whether it be boots, big chunky necklaces, or the right belt to accent the waist.    In that sense, the white dress has so many versatile options and gives you a number of options to wear it with great accessories and shoes.

A few final rules of thumb to think about with the white dress option, you want to make sure that it is not too sheer, that it gives you options for a variety of ways to accessorize it and of course that it fits you well to give you that confidence to wear it.

Rose Print Dress

This summer floral pattern dresses are just as popular as ever.  If you are looking for rose pattern dresses and tops then you’ll frequently see them in delicate even sheer fabrics such as chiffons with sweetheart necklines and spaghetti straps.  They are beautiful, but they are also traditional.  We like to branch out a bit with a variety of different alternatives with that basic rose print dress with alternate ways to bring rose or floral patterns into your closet.

Consider pairing the Sleeveless Front Tie Tank from designer Sweet Pea by Stacy Frati with a green or red skirt.  This great tank features a distinctive neckline with the ruched neck with a tie around the neck.  This tank exudes femininity and of course is complemented by a beautiful rose print pattern featuring bright red roses.   For a dressier look, we suggest pairing this with a pencil skirt such as the Sintia Pencil Skirt by designer Velvet by Graham and Spencer.  It would look great with one of our newest colors Botanica a green color.  This outfit would truly be a statement piece in your closet and a distinctive way to incorporate roses compared to the traditional dress options.

If the gathered tie neck isn’t for you, consider the sister tank also by designer Sweet Pea by Stacy Frati, the Sleeveless Tie Tank Top which also features a beautiful rose pattern in baby blue.  With a baby blue tie in back for added contrast.  This tank features a flared waist and subtle pleats in front.  With a retro style, this rose print tank is a great feminine styled piece that again would look great with a pencil skirt or even leggings for a dressier look.  This is a great summer tank with lots of color and feminine touches.

If you are still interested in finding a distinctive floral /rose print dress consider the Tie Short Dress also by designer Sweet Pea by Stacy Frati.  This dress features a retro style and a bold brown and pink floral pattern.  With color blocking detail around the waist and bodice, this dress is completely distinctive and a great away to bring in floral patterns while also maintaining your individual style.  This dress also works with leggings or simply as is whatever you prefer.

As you can see there are a number of ways to create an individual style while still including feminine pieces such as rose prints whether they are in tops, tanks, skirts or dresses.  Using patterns and prints is a great way to add versatility and options to accessorize these statement pieces and maximize the options of different ways to wear patterned pieces.  We also love that they are truly distinctive.  Even though roses are fairly uniform, these pieces show that they can also be distinctive.

Ultimately, you have to find the dress that is the perfect fit for you, but we suggest that you consider thinking outside of the box instead of simply sticking with the traditional rose pattern dresses that you can find from a number of designers.

Blue Floral Dress

There are a variety of different shades of blue which when combined with a floral pattern can make shopping for a blue floral dress a challenge.  There’s the baby blue, the blue green, navy, turquoise, teal, aqua, and the list goes on.  You can find a variety of blue dresses including blue floral dresses this season so choosing the right dress for you can be a tiresome task.  However, this can all be simplified by narrowing down your options with a few simple choices.

First, is blue the primary color you are looking for or an accent color.  If you are looking for blue to be a central color in the dress, consider the Cherry Short Sleeve Dress by designer Velvet by Graham and Spencer.  The floral pattern features blues and reds along with a tile pattern in back for added detail.  There are a few different shades of blue in the pattern on this floral dress giving it added options for accessories.  We love pairing it over a pair of leggings and worn as a tunic for added versatility.  The dress features a lightly plunging neckline and a brown tie around the waist for added contrast.  This dress features a sheer silk cotton blend fabric that feels light and airy on which is an added benefit.

If you are looking for an accent blue color then consider the Mod Retro Tunic by designer Sweet Pea by Stacy Frati as a dress option.  Here this stylish black dress features contrasting floral images in blues, pinks and purples mixed with Spanish tile décor.  In a retro style this dress features a classic A line and is sleeveless.  Here the blue is more of a subtle color, but still enough to add a bold pop of color and style to this dress.  Of course if this style of dress isn’t for you, consider the sister dress the Retro Boatneck Dress featuring a tie around the waist with the same floral pattern.

Finally if you really want the floral pattern to be more subtle consider wearing the Berta Short Sleeve V Neck dress by designer Velvet by Graham and Spencer that features a solid navy blue dress.  Mixing it with a floral scarf, a rose accented belt, or jewelry, could give you that floral element while still maintaining a strong blue statement dress.

Whatever you prefer, you really can’t go wrong in searching for that perfect blue floral dress for your wardrobe.  Floral patterns are a great way to blend in other accessories and give you added versatility.  Whether that be leggings, boots, scarves, hats, jewelry, belts or shoes, such accessories really are perfect for blending with Floral patterns dresses or even floral pattern tops.  We also love finding blues because frankly almost all of us have so much black in our closets these days that a great blue can really help mix things up.   These floral pieces really can become great choices in an economy where you are looking for something versatile.
