Style Trend: The Cozy Shirt Dress

Diya Stripe Cozy Jersey DressSimple and sweet… we love this Diya Stripe Cozy Jersey dress by Velvet by Graham and Spencer.  Why? Because it’s so versatile. It’s soft, comfortable, and long sleeved.  Who could ask for anything more this winter, right?

Well that’s just the beginning.  These shirt style dresses are designed to skim your curves, making them apparent and flattering but without hugging every inch of you.  It’s loose without being baggy, but tight enough to highlight your assets while still hiding your liabilities.  The fabric, length, and style make it casual enough to throw on for a quick run to the grocery store, yet also easy to dress up to carry you through the work day and into those happy hour networking events that your boss loves to throw and while it is long sleeved it is a good transitional dress for warmer fall and spring days as well.

How does this one dress accomplish all of that? It’s all about how you accessorize.  It’s a blank canvas, ready to be transformed into your individual look of the day. For a casual afternoon, wear it with or without some leggings, your comfy flats or slip ons, throw on a scarf or a sweater and you’re golden.  Dress it up with some boots or booties, an elegant scarf, a nice vest, or a long statement necklace and some matching earrings. Other fun ideas include layering on a solid color blazer or a chunky knit sweater, wearing some fun tights underneath, or a leather jacket for faux suede jacket.  We love the Xandra Faux Suede Moto Jacket by Velvet or the Velma Jacket by ASTR.

No matter which way you decide to go with this dress, know that you have tons of options. It’s tiny stripes are fairly neutral, so don’t be afraid to add color or layer on larger prints. Your shoes will help set the tone, so you can use your shoes to guide you with your other accessories.  And finally, use longer accessories to draw the eyes vertically instead of horizontally to create the most slimming effect.

Ruby Army Jacket by Velvet – A Spring Must Have

While designer clothing with feminine details are always in style, the runways have quickly been filling with a different style in 2014.  Designers have been experimenting with cuts that are more boxy and are generally considered more masculine than the types of jackets we’ve seen lately, which have featured contoured waists and peplum silhouettes. However, these pieces remain trendy when paired with bold colors, bright accessories and soft materials.

Ruby Army Jacket by Velvet in Stone

Ruby Army Jacket by Velvet in Stone

Military styles are of a perfect example of the latest trends, and this spring the Velvet military jacket known as Ruby will be flying off the shelves. Part of Velvet’s collection featuring designer Lily Aldridge, the button-down coat also features a zipper closure in front and cargo-style pockets isn’t overly feminine at first, but it looks chic when paired with skinny jeans and a cute pair of flats. Available in an olive green known as “forest,” navy blue, vintage black, and stone this cotton twill jacket is lightweight, breathable, easy to care for and just as easy to wear. The jacket also features a drawstring tie inside the jacket which gives you the ability to make the waist as tight and fitted at the waist or as loose as you prefer.

The sleeves can be worn cuffed or rolled up which makes the jacket wearable even during hot summer months.  The rolled up sleeves add contrast to the boxy style with a shorter fitted sleeve. That’s one of the perks of women’s military style jackets — they’re actually as versatile as they are comfortable. These new jackets by Velvet are perfect if you just don’t have time to spare to run to the dry cleaner’s every week.

Worn open, the spring jacket has a casual look that works well over tees, turtlenecks and button-shown shirts. However, the Velvet black jacket looks especially smart when closed. The jacket stands on its own, however. Zipper and and button details add both visual and tactile feedback to this military jacket.

4 Ways to Wear This Velvet by Graham and Spencer Jacket

  1. Choose colorful skinny jeans and matching accessories with the Ruby Jacket in black, navy or stone to really make a fashion statement.
  2. Wear the forest green jacket over a white tee or tank with distresses blue jeans for a casual day.
  3. Slip the stone jacket over your favorite little black dress before going out on the town.
  4. Dress up the navy blue jacket with a sleeveless sweater dress or shift dress in a solid color, patterned tights and your favorite booties to keep warm and chic.

There are so many ways to wear this jacket that you just might want to buy all the colors! Plus, this Velvet jacket can be dressed up with pumps or heeled boots or worn casually with kicks or flats.

Velvet by Graham and Spencer promises show stopping fashion at affordable price. The trendy pieces on the collection are stylish but never dated, and it’s easy to pair them with what’s already in your wardrobe. Velvet jackets like this one are hot commodity this spring, so get yours before they’re all gone.

Velvet by Graham and Spencer Sweaters: Cashmere and Cardigans

Vintage inspired cashmere sweaters were all the rage when it came to the runways during New York Fashion Week. Every designer and brand from Gucci to Velvet by Graham and Spencer has picked up the new trend, which pairs casual sweaters with luxury materials such as cashmere for a modern take on an old look.

While many of the sweaters that models wore may seem out of reach featuring bold styles and luxurious materials designers like Velvet by Graham and Spencer have created modern, wearable styles that are contemporary and stylish without the runway.  As you probably already know, cashmere offers an unforgettable texture and warmth which makes it a must have fashion piece for your winter wardrobe. Some of Velvet’s latest collection like the Jamila Cashmere Crewneck Sweater is a great demonstration of a mix of old and new styles with the retro sweatshirt style crew neckline combined with the current color blocking trend. This sweater is stylish and trendy while still being comfortable and easy to wear.

Jamila Cardigan by Velvet

Jamila Cardigan by Velvet

Don’t worry if you’ve never worn cashmere before. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

4 Ways to Wear Cashmere Sweaters by Velvet

  1. Pair cashmere sweaters with white or black skinny leg jeans to create the ultimate fashion statement. For a bolder look, try a royal blue, teal or bright pink color jeans or leggings to go with a white cashmere sweater.
  2. Wear a sweater with a form-fitting skirt over tights. White cashmere, bright skirts and navy or dark tights are perfect for days that are cool.
  3. Wear a button-down blouse under a V-neck cashmere sweater, allowing the hem and collar to pop through to provide contrast. Patterns on the button-down add interest to a solid-colored sweater, and this look is perfect for office casual.
  4. Opt for solid, color-on-color stripes or subtle patterns when it comes to picking leggings for cashmere sweater dresses. Dress up the style with a thick belt, bangles on the wrists and ankle boots for a comfortable look that will never go out of style.

Cardigans On the Runway

Retro sweaters and cropped jackets weren’t the only items to make a comeback on down the runway this year, either. Cardigans are everywhere this season and a piece this easy to wear is sure to fill up closet space quickly. Cardigans by Velvet promise comfort without sacrificing quality. Velvet’s Vandora cardigan as an example utilizes a blend of modal and cotton fabric which gives it a soft, textured look that is reminiscent to the popular burn-out fabric trend. Like Velvet by Graham and Spencer cashmere sweaters, these cardigans feel amazing to the touch, and the Velvet offers several styles for fashionistas to choose from: zipper front, flyaway and cropped, among them.

Grab a casual t-shirt and jeans to wear with cropped Velvet brand cardigan for a casual look during the day. You’ll be comfortable as you run errands and shop for groceries, but you’ll never look sloppy. The same cardigan becomes office appropriate when paired with pumps, black or charcoal slacks and a pretty blouse and you can even go out in the evening by swapping slacks and shoes for fitted dark wash jeans and boots.

Fashion Trend: Must Have Color for 2013 – Emerald Green

Double Breasted Cocoon Coat with Bow

Double Breasted Cocoon Coat with Bow

When it comes to fashionable colors, one of our favorite vintage colors is green.  So when we learned last week that Pantone had announced that the must-have color for 2013 was emerald green we were delighted.  This color is a great statement color that can easily be blended into your wardrobe in a variety of different clothing options.

It is that time of year where jackets are imperative and finding a fashionable jacket in emerald green is no problem at Vintage Fringe.  One of our favorite designers, new to Vintage Fringe is Tulle which does such a great job of creating vintage style fashions and this season they utilized a lot of emerald green colors in their designs.  Whether your favorite is the Double Breasted Cocoon Coat in Deep Emerald which features a 3/4 length and cute gathered sleeves and our favorite an adorable bow in back adding to the adorable vintage style elements.  If you need something with a little more of a trench style, then consider the Tie Waist Coat with Epaulettes also in an Emerald Green shade that features a more fitted style.  The tie waist is secured in back with wide sewn in belt loops so it won’t move around while you are wearing it and it gives you flexibility to wear it open or unbuttoned without worrying about the loose tie belt.  The Epaulettes are just the tip of the iceberg so to speak with the details on this jacket like the pockets at the top of the jacket and on the sides at the bottom and the matching belted detail around the cuffs on the jacket.  We have no shortage of green jackets including the previously mentioned Tie Waist Coat with Ruffles and the classic Single Breasted Coat which comes in both Green and Black.

Sui Kimono Top

Sui Kimono Top

If you are looking for something green to wear under your jacket, you can find a number of great options of tops and dresses in the gorgeous green color.  Check out the Dolman Sleeve Scoopneck top by Sunday in Brooklyn one of our great indie designers.  This top utilizes a number of great fashion trends like the dolman sleeves that are so popular right now and also colorblocking with the contrasting green and ivory colors. This top is silk and truly a luxurious statement top.  It features an elastic gathered waist giving it the over-sized flowing look around the waist.  This top looks great with a pair of skinny jeans or a pencil skirt and boots.  Another great green option is the Sui Kimono Top by Ogle which is loaded with great stylish details.  The Sui top is a great way to showcase the gorgeous green color and also features great style with the lattice detail down the back of the top and the cute kimono style sleeves with a tie in the middle of the waist.  A great top to wear out at night and classy enough to wear to the office as well.

Sammy Long Sleeve Belted Dress

Sammy Long Sleeve Belted Dress

If you want great dress options in green consider the Button Front Sleeveless Dress by Tulle which is a great retro style dress featuring ruffles around the sleeves, a tie waist and buttons down the center of the dress.  This dress is a great versatile party dress that is also stylish and comfortable while also being adorable.  The Zahara Knot Dress by Velvet in Lilypad features a great comfortable jersey cotton long sleeve dress with a knot detail at the base of the v neckline.  This dress also looks great with boots and is a great versatile go to dress. Finally, another great dress that you can pair with leggings and boots as well is the Sammy Long Sleeve Belted Dress also by Velvet.  This dress features a gorgeous Jellybean green color contrasted with a white on the modern pattern.  With a tie at the waist and a henley neckline accented with buttons, this tunic style dress is a great go to option for everyday while still looking super stylish.

Tulle Jackets – Essential Vintage Style

This season Tulle Jackets are a must have for new jacket additions to your Vintage Style wardrobe.  For those of you who are just learning about Tulle and their amazing vintage inspired new jackets, Tulle’s goal is to design vintage inspired modern clothing. They initially began as a line focused on Outerwear, but are currently also designing adorable dresses, cardigans, tops, skirts and accessories. Since this is the peak of jacket season, we wanted to focus on some of our favorite Tulle Jackets and how they can be a great addition to your vintage style wardrobe.

Tulle Tie Waist Coat with Ruffle

Tulle Tie Waist Coat with Ruffle

The Tulle Tie Waist Coat with Ruffle is the perfect example of an adorable vintage inspired jacket with ruffle detail down the center and accenting the pockets on this collared jacket.  I am a big fan of the stylish Deep Emerald Green color as well.  The jacket also looks stylish and cute with the tie around the waist.  The embellishments like the ruffles, the large buttons, the pockets and the tie waist make this a great vintage inspired statement coat for your closet this season.   Tulle Jackets are fashion jackets and not going to be the best thing for your ski vacation, but are perfect for those chilly days.  I love to wear this jacket with boots and a pencil skirt giving it that modern vintage edge.

Tulle Funnel Collar Coat

Next is the Tulle Funnel Collar Coat.  This jacket features a wide oversized collar accented with buttons and snaps to hold it in place.  The jacket features oversized buttons which add a stylish detail to the collar, sleeves and center of the jacket.  Also adding to the vintage feel is the faux belt in back secured by two more large buttons for contrast.  This jacket is also a bit longer which pulls in more of the vintage style.  That length is also so great to pair with boots and skinny jeans or leggings.  My favorite part is the teal blue color.  It is not your everyday coat color and is sure to stand out in a good way. The fabric on the coat also features a textured weave which gives it added depth and adds to the vintage style.

Tulle Leopard Long Sleeve Faux Fur Coat

Tulle Leopard Long Sleeve Faux Fur Coat

Finally, what is more vintage than a cropped faux fur jacket?  The Leopard Long Sleeve Coat features a gorgeous and soft faux fur leopard print fabric in a cropped button-up almost blazer style jacket.  This jacket features big black beaded buttons in front and a well done faux fur animal print.  Sometimes faux fur doesn’t turn out well and looks cheap and very obviously faux fur.  This is well done and looks stylish and classic as much as any leopard print can be classic.  Our stylists love to style this jacket with tall black boots to give it that modern edgy look that works so well with any sort of leopard print pattern.  A true statement piece, this jacket is a must have to round out your vintage style wardrobe.

As you can see there are a variety of stylish looks that utilize great vintage style trends from fabrics to collars and it is so wonderful to find them in jackets which really are such an essential part of your vintage style wardrobe.  Most importantly vintage style jackets can be such a fun way to add vintage style to any outfit.  Tulle Jackets are a great way to do that and the three jackets highlighted in this post today are really just a sample of what makes Tulle jackets such great vintage style pieces.  These jackets are just a few examples of our favorite vintage style coats this season.  What are some of yours?

Designer Feature: Velvet by Graham and Spencer

Velvet by Graham and Spencer Ruz Poncho

Velvet by Graham and Spencer Ruz Poncho

Velvet by Graham and Spencer is one of our favorite designers at Vintage Fringe.  Today we wanted to spotlight a few of our favorite pieces in their latest collections and highlight some of the reasons why we are such big fans.

At its core, Velvet’s line centers around staple jersey cottons and comfortable casual styles; however, they have also expanded their collections to include elements of faux fur, lace, vibrant patterns, cashmere, and so much more.  Consider a few of our latest favorite pieces as examples of their fabulous wearable fashions.

Consider the Ruz Faux Fur Poncho/Cape.  This jacket truly typifies a modern approach that incorporates a gorgeous vintage style.  The Ruz poncho really reminds us of something you would see on any of the ladies in Mad Men.  It also feels as luxurious as it looks and in a sleek black color makes for a true statement piece.  True to the poncho style, the Ruz jacket is a pullover jacket and flares toward the waist.  This piece is a true paradox as it is bold and yet classic simultaneously.  Elegant ponchos are a big fashion trend this season and a great way to add a new distinctive feminine piece into your wardrobe.

Next the Odet Asymmetrical Hem Skirt features another fashion trend you will see this season with the asymmetrical hemline.  The skirt flares out at the knee with the cascading hemline and off-center seam that gives this skirt added depth and texture.  The Odet skirt also features a gathered waistline that is fitted, but not tight.  The sister to the Odet skirt, the Pia Long Asymmetrical Hem skirt features the same style, but with a longer length. Both skirts are comfortable, sophisticated and feminine which makes them great staples for your wardrobe his season. These skirts are also great options for dressy events as well as casual and I love pairing them with a top like the Giann Cowlneck top also by Velvet.

Velvet Kayin Scoopneck Dress

Velvet Kayin Scoopneck Dress

Finally the Kayin Scoop Neck Dress is another great example of Velvet’s expanded collections.  This dress, like the Odet Skirt, features a rayon blend which feels super soft and adds to the comfortable feel.  The Kayin skirt features a loose gathered waistband and a wide short sleeve.  This dress looks stunning with boots and can also be paired with a belt.  It is available at Vintage Fringe in Charcoal and Navy, and is a great option for your fall wardrobe.

As you can see, Velvet by Graham and Spencer’s latest collection features a variety of distinctive clothing options incorporating the latest in fashion trends in a stylish and wearable way.  These few pieces are just a few great examples of the depth of style and fashion that Velvet’s lines have to offer.  Best of all, all of their clothing is Made in the USA, in Los Angeles in fact which in the current economy is a great advantage.

Striped Tees

Stripes are a huge fashion trend this season and you’ll find striped tees are becoming extremely popular.  You can find striped tees in a variety of patterns not just your basic primary color with white stripes for contrast.  The trend doesn’t stop there, as great stripe patterns have also made their way into skirts, dresses, and so much more.  Here are a few of our favorite striped tees as examples of different ways to incorporate stripes into your wardrobe.

First, check out the Stripe V Neck by Alternative Apparel.  It is a basic style top that looks much more than basic with a great stripe pattern.  Here the stripes feature a cream color alternated with a chocolate stripe color.  The top features a v neck and trim around the cuffs and neckline in chocolate for added detail.  This tee is a semi-sheer tee featuring a cotton poly blend fabric.  It really is a great basic staple tee for your wardrobe and at $10 you really can’t go wrong.

Next consider the Splendid 4 Band ¾ Sleeve V Neck.  Of course, Splendid is known for their great fabrics and their signature stripe patterns.  This top is no exception.  This v neck also features a great red/coral color called Sunset that makes this top a great piece for this season with the popularity of great coral tones.  The stripe pattern features a series of “4 band” stripes or 4 thin stripes all paired together and set apart by stripes of coral.  It is a great vibrant top and a classy, distinctive way to showcase stripes.

Another great stripe option from Splendid is the Navy Slub Shadow Stripe Waist Tie Top.  This top features a frilly sleeve and a tie at the waist.  The top features a scoop neckline, and a feminine tie at the waist which makes this top very distinctive and feminine.  The wide stripes are contrasted Navy and Sunset a great mix.  This top features Splendid’s slub jersey and is extremely soft and comfortable to wear which is such a plus for tees.  You can also find this same stripe pattern in the long sleeve Navy Slub Shadow Stripe Puff Sleeve top as well.  That top is a bit more dressy than this one and not quite as much of a tee shirt, but a great fall/winter option.

Finally, for another different style of striped tee consider the Stripe Knit Top by designer Collective Concepts.  This top features wide stripes as well contrasted with white and pink or white and green depending on what you prefer.  The white fabric is a burnout material which gives it an opaque look and the top also features solid white around the neckline. With short sleeves and a loose fit around the body of the top, this style also provides a different tee shirt look.

As you can see, there is no shortage of great striped tees out there and really the tough part is narrowing down which striped tee suits you best.  Each of these tees feature comfortable, wearable fabrics and are distinctive.

Fashion Trend – Full Skirt

This season you are sure to see one of the latest fashion trends – full skirts.  The full skirt is a totally feminine way to wear a stylish skirt that is not only stylish, but also extremely comfortable.  A welcome addition to fashion trends, the comfortable skirt that is also flattering and feminine is something so popular that it is difficult to find such skirts in stock. Consider a few examples of this great fashion trend that have quickly become some of our favorite must have skirts this season.

First, consider the Lija Skirt.  This skirt by designer Velvet by Graham and Spencer is truly a perfect blend of a classic style with contemporary details like the raw edge and the high waist.  The skirt of course flares which makes it a full skirt that also will make you feel girly and feminine on while also making it very comfortable and flattering.  This is a great “go to” skirt that can be worn out running errands on a weekend or with the right top and accessories dressed up and worn to a dressy occasion too.  Available in basic black, this skirt is a must have summer essential.  It is also a jersey cotton so it is comfortable and casual enough to literally go from day to night and is also machine washable to boot.

Similarly, the Fanya Skirt which is also by Velvet is another example of a great full skirt.  This skirt, however, is more than just a great classic flared skirt, because it also features a diagonal stripe pattern and an asymmetric hem and a diagonal line across the waist for accent.  The pattern shifts at this seam as well giving it a natural break and added distinction. In fact, the Fanya skirt is actually a great modern interpretation of the classic full skirt.  This skirt is made from a cotton tencel blend so it is the ultimate soft, comfortable fabric and easy to wear again for casual and dressy occasions depending on what you wear it with and how you accessorize it. I love the raw edges again at the hem and the stripe pattern that really does make this a distinctive skirt.  Best of all it is available in Night a navy/black stripe contrast, Highland a taupe/brown stripe and Green House a contrasting light green/dark green stripe pattern.

As you can see, both of these skirts are great examples of modern updates to a classic full skirt style that is also extremely wearable and by default also extremely comfortable with their wearable, comfortable fabrics and the natural fit of the full skirt style.  Obviously the Lija skirt has a more classic approach, but the asymmetrical line and the complementary stripe pattern which makes this skirt a great distinctive full skirt alternative.  Best of all both of these skirts are extremely versatile and can be worn to most casual and even certain dressy occasions with a number of different style of tops and accessories.
