Fall Fashion: Spotlight on staying cozy!

Monday, October 4th, 2010

As the temperatures drop, we all reach for for warmer clothes, but cooler weather does not mean that sweatpants are the new dress code. To the contrary, there are so many chic sweaters and jackets that can easily be paired with jeans and leggings, it is almost easier to be chic in fall and winter. Here are a few effortless pieces to help you stay warm and cozy through the fall and winter. I love  they layering capability of a wrap sweater and this Audrey Wrap Sweater by Laurie B. is super versatile for fall and winter.

Another great cozy sweater for fall and winter is the Moonlight Cap Wrap by Laurie B. I love the pink sweater that is pictured, but if that isn’t for you, try it in black, navy blue or white. This sweater hangs so beautifully, and really makes a perfect frame to showcase one of your favorite necklaces.

I love detail and the Aspen Motorcycle Sweater by Velvethas plenty of it. The off center zipper and other zipper and buttons really make this a standout sweater for fall 2010. This is os cute open or closed and it is just as easy to wear as your collegiate hoodie, but oh so much cuter!

Fall Fashion Trend: Gray

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

For fall fashion 2010 take a cue from mother nature and wear more gray. Gray is a fabulous color and looks good on most skin types{if you get it in the right tone!} and it is a great base for all your colorful fall coats, scarfs, and jewelry! Check out the gorgeous Serlina Boatneck Long Sleeve Top by Velvet. The boatneck is totally chic and made from 100% cotton, which means it’s machine washable, love that!

The Solna Sleeveless Top by Velvet by Graham and Spenceris stunning. The draped, sweeping neckline is so sweet and feminine. I think this top would be perfect for day or night, casual or dressy, its versatile cut would be perfect for just about any occasion.

If sweater and cardigans are more your style, try rocking a layered look with the Victoria Cardigan by Ella Moss. You just have to see the ultra cute details that wrap all the way around the back of this cardigan. This would be the perfect light sweater for early fall or a great piece for warmer layering for winter.

So what do you think?? Is gray going to be a new staple color for your fall and winter fashion??

Getting a leg up on Fall Fashion

Friday, September 24th, 2010

Fall and winter fashion are all about layers for me, and what is better staple piece and layering item them leggings?? Leggings are so great because they can be worn in a million different ways to make a million different looks. I love leggings tucked into boots, or worn with booties and a tunic length top. Velvet by Graham and Spencer, who are known for their ultra soft and comfortable fabrics have a fabulous pair of knit leggings, the Swoosie. {Wouldn’t love to know where that name came from??} They are the perfect pair to start your looks with, available in dark grey or black.

I don’t know about the rest of you, but is supposed to hit the 90′s this weekend, so I am still very much into summer clothes. Especially summer clothes that will transition into fall and winter outfits. Enter the Lace Trim Stripe Tank by Collective Concepts, it is obviously perfect for summer just by itself. But imagine it with a coordinating  color long sleeve shirt underneath it for fall, and a cropped leather jacket on top for winter, so chic!

Another great piece for layering, is an open cardigan. I love to wear an open cardigan with leggings, because then I can wear a shorter shirt and the open cardigan is long enough to cover my behind. The Cotton Bamboo Cardigan by Splendid is great because is has short sleeves, making it perfect for layering and lasting though all the seasons.

So enjoy the weather where ever you are and whatever it is and remember layering pieces are perfect now and perfect later. It all starts with the perfect pair of leggings!

Velvet by Graham and Spencer

Friday, September 17th, 2010

Velvet by Graham and SpencerVelvet by Graham and Spencer has become one of our signature lines at Vintage Fringe.  Designers Jenny Graham and Toni Spencer started this contemporary casual collection with a desire to mix quality, comfort and yet still maintain a distinctive fashion style.  This philosophy is found in all of Velvet’s pieces.   While Velvet by Graham and Spencer is a contemporary T-shirt collection, a majority of their pieces are far more than simple T-Shirts.    Made with a range of soft and wearable fabrics including baby jersey knits, slinky rayon, and even cashmere, the combination of different fabrics and distinctive styles and designs gives Velvet’s line a broad distinction from other lines.

Velvet has a variety of constant fabrics that you can always rely on to provide comfortable and fashionable looks.  Here are a few of our favorites:

Velvet’s Baby Jersey collection features a super soft jersey knit fabric and of course is machine washable.  Velvet features their basics within this fabric and then also offers their Novelty pieces which include feminine touches and more contemporary looks.   Another Velvet constant is their Gauzy whisper collection.  Made of thinner knit fabric that is sheerer than the thicker baby jersey fabrics, the Gauzy whisper pieces often feature raw hem edges and often include rucheing or gathered fabric incorporated into various aspects of the tops.  One of our absolute favorites is the Slinky Rayon collection by Velvet.  Made of a luxurious feeling Rayon, the Slinky Rayon collection often features more contemporary styles that exude contemporary femininity. Slinky rayon pieces feature fewer colors, but deep, rich colors such as black, navy, some type of an awesome silver color, and often a wine purple color.   Slinky rayon is dry clean only, but oh so worth it!

Some of our best sellers at Vintage Fringe are Velvet pieces including the Kelisha tank, a long tank top, which is part of Velvet’s Baby Jersey collection.  Featuring a length that is difficult to find in most tanks, this tank hits our 5’7” model about mid-thigh.  This is the perfect piece to layer under the ever popular tunic tops right now and works great with leggings.    Another great piece by Velvet is one of our newer arrivals at Vintage Fringe the Marni Slub Dress.  This dress features a cowlneck at the top, wide short sleeves, a drawstring waist and pockets on the front at waist level. Made of their winter slub fabric it includes a heavier slub fabric that still feels ultra luxurious and oh so stylish.  It is still 100% cotton, but has some texture to it and is machine washable.

In short, we are confident that you will fall in love with Velvet by Graham and Spencer just as we have.  We love the contemporary look and while some of the pieces are basics, we think you’ll agree that high quality pieces may be more expensive, but often outlast their cheaper counterparts.  Not to mention that when Velvet does go modern and incorporate distinctive trends such as ruffles or tunic length tops, their tops are absolutely stunning.  For all of these reasons, Velvet by Graham and Spencer should be one of your wardrobe staples.

Relaxed Fall Styles

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

September fashion is a bridge from the light weight and loose clothes of summer to the structured heavy weights of fall and I for one am having a hard time coping with the fact that it is indeed September and summer is ending. To help me{and you!} feel better about the situation, I have found some truly beautiful pieces that are a little bit summer and a little bit fall. Which makes them perfect for right now!

Solna Sleeveless Top by Velvet by Graham and Spencer.

First is this lovely feminine Solna Sleeveless Top by Velvet by Graham and Spencer. I am loving the neckline, the super soft and drapey material and this perfect for all gray/purple color. The detail really draws the eyes up to your face, and highlights the collarbone.

Saturday, August 21st, 2010

Summer clothes from great designers are now on sale at Vintage Fringe.   You won’t want to miss great finds including lots of Sweet Pea clothing and even including newer arrivals from Collective Concepts clothing.  Don’t miss this end of summer sale the features some of favorite styles from the summer.  Below are my top picks now 30-40% off at Vintage Fringe.

Racerback Flared Tunic Tank Top by Collective Concepts

Racerback Flared Tunic Tank Top by Collective Concepts

This Collective Concepts racerback flared tunic tank has been one of my favorite pieces this summer.  It is so easy to glam up with cute shoes and basic leggings and I always feel like a million bucks when it wear it.  Accessorizing is easy with this racer-back tank because it has the adorable black and silver beaded straps.  While this tank designed by Collective Concepts usually sells for $55.00 this week only at Vintage Fringe it is on sale for $33.00.

La Befana Navy Tie Tank

La Befana Navy Tie Tank

I love love love this La Befana Tank (I personally own it in polka dot also on sale this week at Vintage Fringe).  I wear it with a cute cap sleeve or a long sleeve shirt underneath.  The tie on the side adds the perfect detail that makes this top a one-of -kind top to add to your wardrobe.  I can wear this to work or at home and it is always adorable and flattering.  This week only at Vintage Fringe this tank designed by La Befana is on sale for $50.00… thats 40% off!

Laurie B. Rumba Puff Sleeve Sweater

Laurie B. Rumba Puff Sleeve Sweater

Knit designer and visionary Laurie B. is known for her high quality high fashion knitwear and this Laurie B. Rumba puff sleeve sweater wrap is probably my favorite design of hers.  This sweater snaps in the front for a completely separate look or it unsnaps to become the adorable wrap that is perfect for fall and early winter.  This sweater is also full of surprising details like the adorable pockets and puff sleeves.  This is also a super soft lightweight knit that can give you warmth but won’t overheat you. It really is perfect for any season.  A knit wrap like this can easily sell for around $200, but this week only at Vintage Fringe this puff sleeve cardigan is only $99.

Fashion Trend: Charm Necklaces

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

All fall and winter your neck was covered with adorable scarfs or turtlenecks.  Now that it’s springtime, it is time to decorate your neck with a little bling vintage style.  Double strand necklaces are the perfect fashion statement for you neck- especially with a boat-neck style top.  To go purely vintage check out Chanel’s clear crystal sautoir.

Chanel's Vintage Extra Long Clear Crystal Sautoir

While this vintage piece is exquisite some of us may not have the $1,495 dollars to spend.  If that is the case maybe you will like my interpretation of this necklace.  Retailing for a very reasonable $30 dollars.

Jewelry Designer Rosanne Follman's Double Strand Charm Necklace

Jewelry Designer Rosanne Follman's Double Strand Charm Necklace

Vintage Fringe exclusively is selling  jewelry designer Rosanne Follman’s double strand charm necklace. I love the use of soft green mother of pearl shells along with silver charms to create a beautiful vintage inspired, but very fashion forward piece.  The length of this necklace is 24 inches, it is a  copper chai with a toggle clasp.

I would pair this necklace with Velvet’s Daree Wide Sleeve Boatneck Top in Milk (ivory)

I think the mother of pearl green shells with silver would pair perfectly this with boatneck top designed by Velvet by Graham and Spencer.  What do you think? What would you pair this necklace with?

Fashionable Tank Tops

Friday, May 7th, 2010

The sun is shinning and tank tops are out in full force. Unless you have been living under a rock, you probably notices how many a celebrity have been showing some very toned arms lately. Buff or toned arms are the thing right now and to show off all that hard work tank tops are everywhere. First, lets get a little arm inspiration and then I will show you some darling tanks to showcase your own arms! Jessica Biel showing off her fabulous arms.

I am loving the berry color and ruffle detail{which is super hot right now} of this Sweet Pea by Staci Frati 4 Tiered Ruffle Tank. It is a very versatile top, which as you know I am all about anything that goes easily from errand running to date night.

If you are looking for a very casual, very typical California style, check out this Kelisha Long Tank Top by Velvet. Yes, it is very basic, but the extra length makes it perfect with skinny jeans and think of the accessorizing possibilities. Gladiator sandals, and over sized hobo bag and  long necklace would be oh so chic!

If ruffles or basic aren’t your thing, go check out Vintage Fringe to see some more cute tank top options. Now go do some push ups and show off those fab arms of yours!

Trend Alert: Pattern

Monday, April 26th, 2010

In fashion, color, pattern, and texture are all a part of the current trend and this spring we are seeing more and more pattern. Some big, some small, but pattern and lots of it. There is anything from floral, to the newer watery effect dresses that many celebrities have recently been spotted wearing. If you are someone who sticks to the basic solids, now is the time to dip your toe into the fun world of pattern. Something that is not too scary to try is black and white pattern, I really like the leafy almost damask print of this Belted Ruffle Top from Sweet Peaby Staci Frati. Just having pattern on top draws the eye up to your face and the flattering built in belt really creates or accentuates curves.

If you are feeling a bit more bold, try an all over pattern. This Chapel Dress by Velvet has a gorgeous pattern that isn’t too overwhelming and comes in two different color combinations that are both flattering, either black and white or red and white.

No matter what your pattern style may be, remember my number one rule: if you aren’t comfortable and confidant in what you are wearing, it won’t look good. So make choices that work for you and not the model in the picture. Now tell me, are you an all over pattern the more the merry type of gal, or a small hits of pattern here and there type of gal?? Me, it depends on my mood!
