How to update your wardrobe for spring

Monday, March 29th, 2010

Everyone wants to look fashionable, or their best no matter what the climate, and even in a tough economy you can update your look for spring with just a few pieces. This spring, as usual, we are being hit with loads of trends and fads, i suggest picking a few that work for you, your lifestyle, your body type and going with those. The three trends that I am loving are prints and over-sized florals, sleeves, and black and white. First the prints and over-sized florals, what a fun eye-popping trend. Go bold here and remember to not go too over the top, keeping accessories simple can help avoid that. This Sleeveless Front Tie Tank Top by Sweet Pea is perfect for spring and perfect for this trend. Imagine a boyfriend blazer on top of it for the office and then let is stand alone for a night out-love that!

Next is sleeves, most people tend to think that warmer weather means less sleeves, but this year you will find lots of options that offer chic coverage. Sleeves are oh so flattering, especially the flouncy versions found this spring. A great option to try this trend is the Keelin Squareneck Lace Top by Velvet.{bonus, it just happen to be in a print, two trends for the price of one!}

Lastly is the stark contrast of black and white. I love this trend because it is so versatile and easy to incorporate in any wardrobe. Bold color accessories look great with black and white and stripes, patterns, shirts, dresses, sweaters and more can all be done in this trend. I am loving this Gable Stripe Cardigan by Laurie B.The bold black an white stripes are right on and the exposed zipper adds a bit of edge, not to mention that the cut is ultra flattering.

What to Wear on St. Patrick’s Day

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

This Wednesday Irish or not so Irish it’s probably in your best interest to wear green.  I am still trying to decide just how festive I want to look for a St. Patty’s day party this weekend.  Just in case anyone else is still trying to pick your outfit out.  Below are some of my favorites to choose from.

Laurie B. Emmy Cardigan Sweater in Kelly Green

Laurie B. Emmy Cardigan Sweater in Kelly Green

This Cardigan Sweater is designed by Laurie B. and is the sweater I receive the most compliments on.  I love how it snaps at the neck and then slits open for a cardigan feel.   The pocket detail and long length makes this sweater so comfortable and easy to wear.   I always pair this sweater with the Zooey long sleeve crew neck in white. Considering this sweater is now in the outlet- it’s a steal of a deal. Maybe the luck  of the Irish.

The other shirt I am considering for St. Patrick’s day is this Victoria Front Tie Top designed by Ella Moss.

Ella Moss Victoria Front Tie Top

There are so many details I love about this top.  First I love the ruffles at the neck line and the cuffs.  This flirty top is made of Ella Moss’s modal fabric which is super durable and the ultimate in comfort.

Some of you celebrating St. Patrick’s Day may want to dress it up.  For a dressy night on the town I would suggest the Aggie V Neck Ruffle Dress.

This empire waist dress is so adorable and so unique you will definitely stand out as the best dressed in the crowd.  I love how fun and playful yet flattering the stripes are on this dress.  St. Patty’s Day or not you will be sure to gave good luck the night you wear this dress.  For any other St. Patrick’s day inspirations just visit VintageFringe.com and search by color.  Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!!

Go Green for Spring

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

Whether it’s chartreuse, jade, emerald, or lime, green seems to be my favorite color for spring.

This tunic dress designed by Velvet is a great choice for spring. Pair it with legging, jeans or wear it as a dress and you have an adorable look for spring.  This green color also pairs perfectly with blue, denim, red, or yellow so don’t be afraid to spotlight more than one color this spring.

Splendid's 1x1 buttonup long sleeve shirt

This long sleeve top made of the softest supima cotton  is so versatile you can really pair it with anything.  I love to wear it buttoned down with a cami underneath.  I love how Splendid designed this top with a layering effect that makes this shirt unique from any other long sleeve shirt you have in your closet.

The best looks for right NOW

Monday, February 8th, 2010
Spring trends are on everyone’s mind, {lets be honest, most stores are rolling out swim suits this month!}but spring could be a ways off for some of you, so here are some looks that I love for right NOW. As mentioned in this post, ruffles are in and I love the chic gray color and slimming wrap detail of this Potina Top by Velvet by Graham and Spencer. Paired with dark denim and a headband accessory and the look is fresh and oh so appropriate for february weather. {I think I would love this top even more if I was holding the Borrealis bag, the colors would be so pretty with the gray of this top!}

Another look that I am loving is the slouchy, loose fitting boyfriend look, like this Boyfriend Buttonup by Splendid. This shirt exudes that laid back style, I love pairing it with lots of necklaces as shown for some unexpected glamour. As always, I love a good riding boot and this black pair complement and complete the entire look. If this isn’t quite warm enough yet, no worries just layer a bomber jacket, or long cardigan over it!

And lastly, for those of us that “winter” never really comes {I live in San Diego, don’t hate me!} this Ellasentials Cardigan Smock by Ella Moss is perfect. The shortened sleeve, open front and details at the shoulders and back all add charm to this closet staple. I love how this cardigan can eaisly be great for anything from running around town with the kiddos or dressed up for an evening out.

Fashion Trends from the Grammys

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

Red Carpet fashion at the Grammys was glamor mixed with rock, pop, and even a little bit of country.  The best dressed ladies of the night wore dresses that had the perfect mix between going dressy and keeping it fresh and young.  So here again are my best dressed pics and my everyday translation for them.

A total standout of the night was  Mary J. Blige in a long fuchsia gown designed by Gucci.

Mary J. Blige in Gucci

Gucci is a typical pick for Mary J. Blige, but this dress is a daring choice for her.  I love the fuchsia color, but most of all I  love the detail on the neck that adds just enough detail to make the dress interesting yet classically beautiful. My choice for an everyday look that encompasses the same style as this look is the Margarethe Scoop Neck Twist Top by Velvet.

While this everyday version of Mary J. Blige’s dress pick does not come in fuchsia, it does come in Sunny (yellow), Black, Stardust (purple), and Sprig (lt. brown).  I love how sultry the twist top scoop neck makes me feel and look.  This top is a perfect choice for a date or any night on the town.  I also love how this look works for any body type or shape.

My next pick for best dressed at the Grammys was Jennifer Nettles in a fierce cut out gown designed by Victoria Beckham.

Sugarland’s leading lady looked like royalty at the Grammy’s last night dawning a red and black cut out gown.  I love how the black out lines and cut outs give a completely flattering and classic look a bit of a modern twist.  I also applaud Jennifer for being such a trendsetter and picking a relatively new red carpet designer.

My everyday translation of this look is an adorable cut out top designed by Ella Moss.

Ella Moss Blair Puffsleve Top

Ella Moss Blaire Puffsleve Top

The Blaire Puffsleeve top features a  3/4 length sleeve with cut outs near the shoulders which are lined in white.  I love how this cut out exposes skin right where the collar bones and the shoulder connect.  I also love that Ella Moss carries this top two bold colors: Candy Apple (red) as well as Admiral (Navy Blue).

Find these everyday styles and more designed by Velvet, Ella Moss, Sweet Pea, Alix K. and more at Vintage Fringe everyday and of course comment on this post with your own best dressed picks from the Grammys.

Trend Alert: Accessories

Monday, February 1st, 2010
Navigating the maze of accessories can be tough, here are a few no-fail tricks that work to jazz up any outfit. One of my favorite things to do{and celebrities rock this all the time} is to add a pop of color somewhere to an outfit. It could be a handbag, a necklace, a shoe, anything really.  Here is a great example of a simple jeans and top {a fabulous top at that, its Sweet Peaby Staci Frati Ruffle Sleeve Bib Top} with a pop of color in the shoe. The bright purple is fun and unexpected-love this look!
Sweet Pea by Staci Fragti top and a pop of color in the heels.

Another hot accessory trend is an over-sized clutch. What girl doesn’t love an over-sized bag?? This look is so functional and fashionable, love that combo don’t you?? This look clearly has a pop of color in the pants, and a busy print in the Keelin Squareneck Lace Top by Velvet so the neutral black and brown accessories are spot on. Notice how the clutch is black and the bangles are brown, don’t be afraid to mix!
Oversized clutch with bangles in neutrals.

And lastly, something that I like to call the three B’s: Boots, belt and bangles. Boots have been major for the past several seasons and there are no signs of that slowing down. They can instantly add some rock-n-roll, retro, classy, or cowboy to your look. Belts are are great way to create a waist, and can even work great to camouflage a waist when wore when a blousy top. Bangles are so easy to throw on and it seems that ‘the more the merrier’ trend with them is still going strong. So don’t be afraid to stack them up! I love how all three of these accessories jazz up this simple{yet beautiful} black tunic dress by Ella Moss. Again notice the pewter on the belt and the gold bangles, mixing these is ok and looks chic, don’t be afraid to try it!

Ella Moss and Velvet Go Neutral

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

Nude colors just aren’t for your bras and underwear anymore.  Neutrals, buffs, and nudes are all over the place this spring.  For many of you fair fashionistas a nude color palette may be something you think is not at all flattering for your fair complexion.  So here are a few of my suggestions on how to wear nude and not  get washed out.

Velvet's Freda Gathered Dress in Fog

Velvet's Freda Gathered Waist Dress in Fog

Instead of matching your new wardrobe with your foundation colors instead look to incorporate subtle neutrals to your wardrobe.  For those especially fair ladies  make sure you pick a neutral hue that doesn’t bring out the yellow undertones in your skin.  A perfect example of this is Velvet’s  Freda Gathered dress in the “fog” color.  This very neutral almost lavender color is great for the fair ladies who can get easily washed out in other colors.  This fog color introduced by Velvet will highlight the pinks in your skin tone.  I also really love how this neutral color with a hint of gray really makes the model’s blue eyes pop.

To follow the fashion trend of nudes and neutrals you don’t always have to wear all nude.  This cute nude and white striped shirt by Ella Moss is adorable and allows you to accessorize with bold colors which is oh so perfect for spring.  I love how Ella Moss added a neutral stripe to this puffsleeve front tie top which adds a bit a flair to an already trendy top.  This top also has elastic in the sleeves and the waist which gives you a perfectly tailored look.

These designer looks are sure be strong this spring, and don’t forget at Vintage Fringe you can always shop by color or designer.

What to wear on Valentine’s day

Monday, January 25th, 2010
Dresses, and skirts, and shoes, oh my! Deciding what to wear for a special occasion, lets just say Valentine’s Day, can be tricky. But look no further ladies, I’ve got the advice and looks for a sure fire hit for V-Day 2010.  No matter if you are doing a fancy dinner out or a cozy night in, we all want to look our best for cupid, that special someone, or just your self! The first look is the ever popular dress. Dresses can be very flattering and a bit more dressed up then normal day to day wear. I suggest going with a pattern, maybe something you wouldn’t normally wear.  This gorgeous dress by Velvet by Graham and Spencer fits the bill and will surely turn a head or two when worn.  It is also available in Red/White which would be perfect for Valentine’s Day!

The second look is more casual, a simple cardigan and jeans. Cardigans are always a classic look and I just adore the cute heart detail on this one.  It could easily be dressed up with skinny jeans and some killer heels or kept casual as shown.

Whatever your plans are, remember this: No outfit looks sexy if you are uncomfortable with yourself in it! Choose something that you feel confident in and you will look your best, because you feel your best.  So what are your V-Day plans, going out or staying in?? Me, I think a cozy night in will be perfect for this year…I’ll be the one in the cute cardigan and jeans!

Velvet and Zooey Designer Boatneck Tops!!

Monday, January 4th, 2010

Designer Boatneck tops have a classic vintage look that I adore.  Two great examples of the perfect boatneck top that also has a modern twist or fringe are the Daree top by Velvet and the Satin Trim Boatneck by Zooey.

Velvet Daree Wide Sleeve Boatneck Top

Velvet Daree Boatneck Top

By this time of year I am usually trying to shop for tops that I could probably still wear in winter but that will also work into spring.  I love Velvet’s Daree Wide Sleeve Boatneck Top because this is exactly the kind of top that can do both.  I wear this top in Green with a long sleeve white shirt underneath it in the Winter and come Spring I can wear it alone.  My sister owns this top in the other color milk which is a beautiful ivory that looks great with a dark jean and brown boots.  Part of Velvet’s Slinky Rayon collection, the fabric drapes your body perfectly.  It is loose enough you can add a belt for a tunic look, but you can also wear it without a belt and it looks great too.

Zooey Satin Sleeve Boatneck Top

Zooey Satin Sleeve Boatneck Top

The Boatneck top with Satin Trim by Zooey is my ultimate night on the town top.  This regal looking fabric is hemp with satin detail on the sleeve.  We love the fitted look at the waist and the satin contrast on the sleeves.  The hemp fabric has an amazing softness and durability and even though it may not look like it this top is machine washable.  Available at Vintage Fringe  in a dark brown (ebony) or a rich plum (phantom).
