Designer Jersey Dresses

When you are shopping for designer dresses it is so refreshing to find designer jersey dresses because they are so comfortable, easy to care for, and can still look so stylish and can be great versatile pieces in your closet.  We love super soft fabrics like rayons and modals just as much as the next person, but let’s be honest, they are great to wear, but often are dry clean only and sometimes can be so delicate that it makes you nervous to wear them.  As a great alternative that frequently happens to be more economical consider a few of our favorite great designer jersey cotton dresses when you are out on your next shopping trip.

We love dresses by designer Velvet by Graham and Spencer and they are well known for their variety of styles traditionally made using basic baby jersey cotton or their lighter gauzy whisper cotton fabric.  The gauzy whisper line features a hint of spandex to give it a more fitted look and feel.  One of our favorite new dresses that is part of Velvet’s Baby Jersey Collection is the Larina ¾ Sleeve Dress. As the name suggests it featureLarina ¾ Sleeve DressLarina ¾ Sleeve Dressalong with a crochet detail around the wide scoop neckline.  This dress has a looser fit and hits our 5’7” model just about an inch above the knee.  You can wear this dress as shown or belted depending on your individual style.   A great dress for spring and it can even be worn just about year round depending on your preferences with the ¾ length sleeves.  This dress is also available in great colors such as Truffle (Lavender), Pistachio (Green) and Mink (Charcoal Grey).

Another great dress made of jersey cotton is the Olka Dress also by Velvet.  This dress features pleats around the neckline along with an empire waist which is accented by a wide bow that can be tied in front as an added feminine touch.  We love the flirty bow and pleats which make this dress stand out from the typical basic dresses you may find elsewhere.  This dress also features ¾ length sleeves and a deep v neck in front.  The Olka dress is an example of a great versatile dress that can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion.

Finally, consider the Doreen Cutout Dress featuring cutouts around the shoulder area in the sleeves.  This dress is part of the Gauzy Whisper collection and definitely caters to a fitted look.  We love it because it really is unlike most dresses you will see out there and it does have a flirty edge to it.  It features a slim fitted style and it hits above the knee.  We love the look of this dress with a pair of high boots and no question this dress is a total statement when you go out.  Best of all, it is made of jersey cotton and of course is comfortable and easy to wear.

As you can see each of these dresses has a very different look, but they are all great examples of the breadth of options out there for someone shopping for designer jersey dresses.  We hope you can see that it is possible to find reasonably priced designer dresses made of jersey cotton that are stylish and modern without breaking the budget.

Spring Trend: Boatneck Dresses

Every spring as the weather gets warmer dresses are at the forefront of our shopping searches.  This spring, one great trend that you may want to incorporate into your wardrobe are boatneck dresses.  The boatneck line is always such a classic, seemingly retro neckline that we see most predominantly in tops.   To be honest, when I think of boatneck tops, my first thoughts are tops with stripes that really draw you into a sailing motif.  That boatneck stereotype is blown out of the water with a few great examples of boatneck dresses.

First consider the Retro Boatneck Dress by designer Sweet Pea by Stacy Frati.  This dress in vibrant colors and a great retro pattern features black trim and a black tie around the waist.  The pattern of the dress features a mix of flowers in blues, pinks and purples. The style of the dress is a straight fit, but the tie around the waist helps make it more fitted.   This dress features a bolder look and really can be a statement piece for your wardrobe depending on your individual style.  We love the classy and elegant look of the boatneck and are glad to see it becoming a more prominent trend in dresses this season.

The Martha Boatneck Dress by designer Velvet by Graham and Spencer also features a boatneck line.  This dress has a gathered empire waist and a flared waist. It is a great spring summer dress and is made of baby jersey cotton so it is completely washable and comfortable to wear.   This dress in Greenbean is a great vibrant green color which works wonderfully for spring and summer.  We also love the look of the flared waist or skirt with this dress as it really does give a distinctive contrast to the boatneck at top.

Don’t forget to incorporate other great trends for this spring and summer like leggings which would pair perfectly with both of these dresses.  We’ve done previous posts on great ways to incorporate leggings so you can check that out for our tips on that fashion trend, but these dresses would be great complements with leggings.

If you are looking for other great ways to incorporate boatnecks into your spring and summer wardrobe consider pairing boatneck tops with pencil skirts or even flared skirts or A line skirts.   We love the Sintia skirt by Velvet by Graham and Spencer as a great must have for spring pencil skirts.  Don’t forget about the Lija flared skirt also by Velvet as another possible match for great spring / summer skirts.

Ultimately, you have to decide what styles and trends work best for you this season, but we love the trend of boatneck dresses and they will certainly be pieces you will want to be on the lookout for as you shop for spring and summer dresses.   The great classy look of the boatneck line is a great way to incorporate distinctive styles and trends into your wardrobe this season and looks classic enough that it won’t be out of style next season.

Stylish Winter Clothes

During colder weather it is easy to get mired down with lots of layers that keep you bundled up and warm, but sometimes it is nice to break out into stylish winter clothes so that you still manage to maintain that flirty, feminine look.  Here are a few great winter clothes ideas to help snap you out of the winter clothing doldrums.

Consider the sweater.  A piece that you certainly need to wear in the winter and there are some great ways to find stylish sweaters that are not frumpy or plain and will help spice up your winter wardrobe. Take for example the Aspen Motorcycle sweater by Velvet by Graham and Spencer.  A great retro inspired piece the Aspen Motorcycle sweater is a cropped sweater featuring a fold over neck along with an off center zipper from top to bottom.  We also love the great zipper details on the pockets and the epaulets on the shoulders with matching black buttons.  An adorable sweater that is certain to be a staple piece in your wardrobe. This sweater style is a must have for cold winters and this sweater is so warm and cozy and still looks super stylish on.

Another winter staple is the turtleneck.  Turtlenecks have really become timeless pieces that really never fade completely out of style.  While the basic concept of the turtleneck is fairly standard between tops, but you really can find a variety of different details or accents that make them very distinctive.  Consider the Catelina Turtleneck by Velvet with pleats at the neckline.  This turtleneck features a baby jersey cotton and the turtleneck does stay in place better than other turtleneck styles and we adore the pleats which give a basic style a little added feminine touch.   Compare that turtleneck to the Discharge turtleneck by AlixK or the similar Cappy short sleeve turtleneck also by AlixK.  These turtlenecks feature a gathered turtleneck that also stays in place, but creates a beautiful feminine touch on an otherwise plain turtleneck.  AlixK is known for their hand embroidery detailing every top and we love the added details like the darts that give added stylish accents to basic style tops.

Another great example of stylish winter clothes is various designs of wrap sweaters.  We love the Audrey wrap sweater by designer Laurie B.  This sweater is a lightweight fabric blend that feels luxuriously soft.  The fabric includes a cashmere and viscose blend so it feels silky soft on.  The wrap is a faux wrap but with a contrasting tie around the waist that gives it added depth and a subtle feminine touch.  Wraps as a whole are a great piece for your winter wardrobe and you will see them in a variety of styles and colors.

In short, these are simply a few examples of great ways to insert stylish winter clothes into your wardrobe.  Of course you can find a variety of wonderful stylish pieces for colder weather that really do give you great feminine styles to incorporate into your wardrobe you just have to look for them.  Don’t forget to accessorize any of your favorite winter pieces with scarves or cute hats as appropriate as great economical ways to bring in added depth and style to your winter clothes.
