Lace Tops for Spring

As the weather is warming up, finding great lace tops for spring is a great way to dress up your closet this season.   We love finding ways to incorporate lace from tops that are all lace to tops that use lace detail as trim or accents.  Here are a few of our favorites:

For a completely lace look consider the Lace Tank with a Pocket by designer Collective Concepts.  This designer tank top is reasonably priced at $55 and features a racerback and a pocket in front.  It is a sheer lace and is unlined so you will likely want to layer it over another tank, but we love the options to add a pop of color under the lace. Available in black with black trim, this tank top is super versatile and can easily be dressed up or down depending on the occasion.

If you are looking for great tops that are accented with lace detail consider the Hollie Crew Top.  This top is a perfect spring top with the Bee yellow color and of course we love the lace detail around the neckline. The Hollie Crew Top is a great short sleeve spring top with lace accents which really make this top distinctive.  This top by designer Ella Moss is part of the Hollie Collection which also features similar lace detail around the neckline of the Hollie Racerback Maxi Dress.  These lace accents are elegant ways to really add some added style to both the dress and the top.

We also love the Lace Trim Stripe tank by Collective Concepts as another top with lace detail.  Here the detail is also around the neckline and then wide contrasting stripes in either navy or red.  This tank is also a racerback and with a looser flared fit, this tank is a great spring / summer tank top that we love to wear.   Priced at $58 the Lace Trim Stripe Tank top is a great value for a designer tank top.  It is extremely comfortable and a great summer statement piece.

As you can see from these examples, there are a variety of great tops with lace accents or even solid lace depending on the style or look you are going for.  This season we are big fans of incorporating contrasting textures and accents on tops or dresses as ways to really add a pop of detail or “fringe” to basic or simple styles.  In the current economy, this is a great way to make sure your pieces last you far longer than one season and can help justify a higher price for the higher quality piece that is a great statement piece for your wardrobe.  In addition, there is nothing worse than snagging your lace top so having lace accents can help to increase the longevity of your top.   There are lots of different lace alternatives out there and lace is a great feminine fabric which really does make a statement in whatever style piece you choose.

Designer Tank Tops

As we head into warmer weather in spring and summer you will want to make sure that you have a handful of designer tank tops.  We love designer tank tops because they are almost always fashion forward and are at the forefront of trends and made of high quality fabrics which makes them last much longer than many of the less expensive versions.  Of course, you don’t have to buy something super expensive to have it be designer quality.  We love the reasonable prices of designer Collective Concepts and their great designs as an example of something that is high quality and fashion forward while also being reasonably priced.  Consider a few of our favorite examples of great, reasonable designer tank tops that are all $80 or less.

First, starting on the pricier end one of our favorites that is a statement tank top is the Solna Sleeveless by designer Velvet by Graham and Spencer.   Available in Haze, a smokey grey color, this top is a great piece to wear out on the weekend and is dressy enough to wear to special occasions or even to work.  Part of Velvet’s Slinky Rayon collection, the fabric on this top feels so luxurious.  Of course my favorite aspect of this top is the neckline.  With a sweeping asymmetric sash across the neckline that is gathered off center on this top for added detail which looks feminine and stylish.  Priced at $80, this tank is a great reasonably priced designer tank top that will quickly become a favorite in your closet.

As another example consider the Racerback Flared Tunic tank by Collective Concepts.  This designer tank top is reasonably priced at $55 and features a gorgeous grey rayon fabric again giving it that luxurious feel.  With beading around the shoulder straps for added detail and a gathered racerback on the back of the tank we love the dressy look of this tank top.  Again it is versatile enough to work with jeans and yet can also be dressed up to wear out to a special occasion.  We also love the Lace Trim Stripe tank by Collective concepts as a somewhat similar style, but with different details such as lace trim around the neckline and then wide contrasting stripes in either navy or red.  Also a racerback and with a looser flared fit, this tank is a great summer tank top that we love to wear.   Priced at $58 the Lace Trim Stripe Tank top is a great value for a designer tank top.

Finally, consider the Surplice V Neck Tank Top by designer Sweet Pea by Stacy Frati.  Sweet Pea is known for their great patterns and the design of their breathable nylon mesh fabric that is meant to be comfortable in warmer weather.  The Surplice V Neck Tank Top features a deep v neckline with solid purple contrast around the bust.  We love the empire waist line that adds to the femininity of this top.  Not to mention the great pattern on this top featuring a variety of different colors of blues and greens on an ivory colored fabric.

Each of these pieces feature a distinctive style, but are all great, high quality designer pieces that are stylish enough to wear for multiple seasons to ensure that you get your money’s worth.

How to: Stripes Fashion Trend

Stripes have become a great component of modern fashion trends and you’ll see all sorts of great tops featuring a variety of different stripe patterns. Stripes are really nothing new, but their popularity has certainly surged in recent years and there are a variety of great ways to incorporate stripe patterns into your closet.  Below are a few great examples of different stripes in different types of clothing i.e. tanks, short sleeve, long sleeve, sweaters so that you can get a variety of possibilities and great stripe styles.

First consider the Skye V Neck Dress by designer Ella Moss.  This eastern inspired dress style features metallic stripes in a charcoal grey color as contrast.  The stripes are diagonal and for added contrast are horizontal in the back.  We love the metallic stripe which is such a popular trend in fabrics right now and in addition love the deep chocolate brown color.  A great dress from Ella Moss this dress features an empire waist and kimono style v neck.  This dress is the perfect fashion statement piece with a great example of trendy stripes.

If you’re looking for short sleeve tops with stripes consider designer Collective Concepts.  Known for great patterns and designs and distinctive fabrics, Collective Concepts styles are innovative and our favorite piece actually features wide horizontal stripes in contrasting colors.  We love the Lace Trim Stripe Tank.  This tank features a racerback and lace trim around the shoulders for added contrast.  This tank is a great loose fitting way to incorporate modern stripe patterns into your wardrobe in summer.

When it comes to long sleeve tops, designer Splendid has a great way of infusing stripes into their clothing styles.  One distinctive top that we love for their great style trends canvassed on a great contrasting stripe.  We love that this stripe pattern features navy and then is contrasted with either pink or mud a light brown color.  The Navy Slub Puff Sleeve Top features a puff around the shoulders, a Henley neckline with a v neck.  The top also includes ¾ length sleeves and most importantly are the stripes.  We love the color of the stripes in either the pink or the mud color and this top is a great example of feminine style mixed with stripes.

Splendid also designed the Cotton Stripe Tie Cardigan another example of wide stripes with a distinctive style design for the sweater.  This wrap sweater features a tie around the waist and a bold fold over neckline.  We love wearing this sweater over a navy solid long sleeve top or another great bold color for contrast.  It is a great long length sweater and the stripes do give it an added edge.

All of these are just the tip of the iceberg of different ways to wear the stripe patterns in your current wardrobe.  There are most certainly a number of other designers and styles with great stripes, but we wanted to point out that you can literally incorporate stripes into almost every facet of your wardrobe from tanks to dresses and sweaters.  Just be sure that you don’t overwhelm your outfit with too many stripes or contrasting stripe patterns and we always recommend that you steer clear of vertical stripes wherever possible as they are not flattering.

Scoop Neck Top

The scoop neck top has really become a wardrobe staple that you end up trying to stock up on in multiple colors. Scoop necklines have of course been around forever, but it seems like great scoop necklines are incorporated in a lot of wonderful style tops and sweaters featuring both long and short sleeves.  A great look is even layering scoop neck tops over tanks or other contrasting necklines to add color and additional style elements to your look.  Consider a few great pieces that feature scoop neck lines and a variety of distinctive styles so that when you add this great neckline to your wardrobe you don’t’ have to wear the exact same shirt in another color.

The designer Stacy Frati features a variety of Scoop Necklines in her Sweet Pea Clothing collection and here are a few great examples of unique patterns and styles that still incorporate similar scoop necklines.  Consider the Long Sleeve Ruched Empire Waist Top or the Long Sleeve Scoop Neck Floral Top that features a deep scoop neckline, but still includes other stylistic elements that make each of these tops unique.  The Ruched Empire Waist top obviously features an empire waist and ruching (the gathered fabric in front) giving it a beautiful classic regal look that reminds us of something of the Victorian time period.  With a beautiful olive green paisley pattern, this scoop neck top exudes femininity.  The Floral Scoop Neck top by Sweet Pea features another beautiful pattern with the red roses on the front, but features a basic black on the trip around the neckline and the sleeves and back.  Both necklines are wide scoop necks, yet that is about the only similarity between these distinctive tops from Sweet Pea.

Collective Concepts features some great short sleeve scoop neck tops or even scoop neck tanks with a variety of great patterns and styles.  Some of our favorites are the Stripe Knit Tops and tanks by Collective Concepts featuring alternate depths for the scoop necklines.  Available in a variety of colors including navy, green, pink and red, these tops feature great fabrics and feminine details like lace or burnout fabrics.

Alternatively, consider this spin on the scoop neckline with the Multi-Collar Long Sleeve Top by Zooey by Alice Heller.  This long top features three scoop neck collars in front and in back on this seemingly basic long sleeve top.  It is a great top for fall and winter as it doesn’t have a deep scoop neck, but yet still gives the look of a scoop neck with the alternate collars.  The long length is ideal and works great for layering over leggings or pairing this top with boots.

The scoop neckline is quite possibly one of our favorites and we’re so glad to see it utilized in so many different styles and patterns of tops ranging from long sleeve all the way to tanks.  Of course you can also find great distinctive styles of scoop necklines in dresses as well, but in any event the scoop neckline is a great feminine neckline and we love finding so many different possible ways to wear scoop neck tops in your wardrobe.

Detailed Summer Shirts

In fashion, versatility is high on most women’s list of importance because we all do so much and require a wardrobe that can keep up. In today’s economy especially we have to be a bit smarter with what we buy and how we can use it for different occasions. I for one am all about a top that can take me from grocery shopping,  to a business meeting, to meeting the husband{or girls!} for dinner.  I think that a shirt with detail is the easiest to dress down and look chic or dress up and look fabulous.

Check out the beautiful sequin detail on the shoulder of this Scoop Neck Sequin Top by Collective Concepts. It is shown perfectly dressed down for summer and yet could easily be tucked into a pencil skirt for work or pared with leggings or skinny jeans for a night out, love that!

Secondly, the ivory embellishments at the neckline of V Neck Tie Wasit Tunic by Collective Concepts are just gorgeous. I love that the deep V and cropped short sleeve all bring the attention up, elongating both the neck and the arms making us all look a bit sleeker. The detail once again makes this top easily transform from day to night and the neutral color is a perfect choice for all. I for one would par it with leggings and embellished flat sandals.

So, tell me what are your favorite looks for going from day to night? Do they involve something that is embellished?

The neutral color is great and it is so easily a weekend piece over leggings, or if your dare, pare it with some sky high heels and hit the town at night.
