Empire Waist Dresses

One of our favorite feminine styles are empire waist dresses.  They really have made a comeback in recent years and there are really so many great ways to bring empire waist dresses into your closet that it is hard to focus on just a few.  The empire waist dress really is a great style for women with a bit of a bust or with women who may want to hide or minimize their waist line. Personally, I love empire waist styles as to me the empire waist feels somewhat regal and really invokes prior vintage style eras of days gone by.

One of my all time favorite empire waist dresses which is a great piece for summer is the Martha dress by designer Velvet by Graham and Spencer.  This dress features a gathered empire waist bustline and a simple flared waist.  The dress hits just above the knee on most body types and is a great summer statement piece.  I love the Greenbean color as it really does stand out and really does draw you into this dress.

Another great statement piece empire waist dress is the Modal Jersey V Neck dress by Splendid.  Even in the basic black color, this dress does feature a wide v neck and a definite empire waistline which really does make this dress a classic statement piece.  It is also of course a fun, flirty summer dress that looks great with a pair of funky sandals and chunky, long necklaces.  This dress hits just above the knee.

The Odessa V Neck Maxi dress by designer Ella Moss is a completely different style dress that also features an empire waist.  This dress in a beautiful Waterfall color short sleeves and features a twist at the center of the waist to really set this dress apart.  Similarly, the Hollie Maxi dress by Ella Moss also features an empire waist, but here the neckline is accented by a lace knit around the neckline which gives this dress a sexy, flirty feminine touch around the top and still has a definite empire waistline.  The maxi dresses are great styles to work with empire waists with their longer length and are a great way to incorporate current fashion trends and distinctive styles.

Empire waist dresses are not necessarily for every body type, but if you have the right figure to pull off a great empire waist dress, they really are a great way to incorporate your feminine touches into your closet.  I love the fluid look of each of these dresses even if they have distinctive styles.  The connection of the empire waist naturally means that they have fluid skirts and a more flowing regal look to them.    In contrast to the fitted look of other dresses, the each of these empire waist dresses are a great summer style dress that really does work well with casual looks with just a pair of sandals or depending on the dress even feminine styled flip flops.

Pretty Silk Tops for Spring

Silk is always a great fabric, but in spring and summer months silk isn’t as breathable and can often be too hot and you certainly don’t want to sweat it up in your favorite silk top.  If you are looking for a pretty silk top for spring and summer months consider finding a great top that includes silk elements as a compromise to that all silk alternative.

A great example of the mixed fabric top which includes silk is the Ocelot Print silk and cotton top by Splendid.  This top features a boatneck line, short sleeves and an empire waist that leads to a contrasting loose Ocelot pattern on silk with elements of olive green and lipstick red.   This top is easy to wear and is also machine washable which is always a plus when you’re dealing with silks.  It is certainly a distinctive and feminine top that is sure to become a statement piece in your spring / summer wardrobe.

Another demonstration of great blends of fabrics including silks is the Modal Jersey Short Sleeve Top featuring silk fabric for contrast around the neckline.  A great example of casual meets upscale, this top is comfortable and the modal jersey fabric is ultra luxurious.  This top also includes a fitted waistband at the base of the top and a great pleating from the center of the neckline.

Splendid has made several tops with silk accents such as the Modal Jersey with Silk Cotton Voile short sleeve scoop neck top with buttons.  This top features an adorable puff sleeve that is gathered down the side of the sleeve.  The top of course has other details like buttons in the center of the top and the silk cotton voile around the neckline.  We also love the bright colors in light pink or blurple which is a combination color of blue and purple.

Finally, a discussion about great combination silk tops would be incomplete without discussing almost all of the AlixK line.  Designer AlixK uses a great blended fabric which is a combination of cotton and silk blended into the entire weave of the fabric.  Their signature hallmark is adding great embellishments such as embroidery to their wonderful pieces.  My favorite piece for spring or summer is the AlixK Cappy short sleeve turtleneck top.  Their turtlenecks are sewn gathered so they don’t flop around or require constant adjustment like so many turtlenecks do.  This top works great year round as it looks great under a blazer or standalone in warmer weather.

As you can see, the silk is a great accent and a great way to add a bit of extra detail to your favorite spring and summer tops.  Best of all, each of these pieces is machine washable so you don’t live in fear the entire time you are wearing your silk top.  These great options are of course the tip of the iceburg when it comes to combination silk tops or finding great silk accents.  Of course,  we hope that you will agree that wearing 100% silk tops is totally overrated and the variety of textures and fabrics add to the depth and distinction of these great tops.

Survive the Heat in Style

The temperatures are rising high enough for many to abandon all sense of fashion and jump right into the shorts and t-shirt look. Here are some great picks for tops and dresses that can keep you looking hot while feeling cool during these simmering summer months.

Tank Tops
The key to a cool tank top is to pick breathable fabric that is also washable.  Dreamy Designer Sweet Pea’s signature nylon mesh is a great choice for summer. Like this 4 Tiered Ruffled Ruffle Tank in rain (blue).

This tank if full of flirty fashionable details but is soft and comfortable enough you will feel free and easy in it.  This tank is perfect for an outdoor bbq or even a a hot day at the park.

One of Vintage Fringe’s newest arrivals is also a perfect pick for a hot summer day.  Collective Concept’s trendy Racerback Flared Tunic Top is a great example of California style summer clothing.  First this nuetral color is both trendy and smart for hot summer days.  This tank is loose but has so many flattering details like the beaded straps, tunic length, and racerback.  Wear this tank anywhere this summer and you will stay cool and oh so stylish.

Short Sleeve Tops

Splendid no doubt had hot summer days in mind when designing it’s Navy Slub Shadow Stripe Waist Tie Top.

The wide sleeves and signature jersey slub fabric makes this short sleeve top a great choice on a hot day.  I also love how Splendid infamously makes a clean and modern statement with color choices that are both flattering and classic.  Pair this top with khaki bermuda shorts or denim capris… the options truly are limitless.

Designer Dresses

On those scorching summer days summer dresses are the coolest choice to make.

I love love this Modal Jersey V Neck dress also designed by Splendid

Versatile Tops at Vintage Fringe

As things finally start to warm up outside, I thought I would finally do a blog about some of my favorite tops and designers that I am wearing these days to look fashionable in this transitional weather.  I love layering and since it is still a little too cold to wear tanks and short sleeves in Colorado I have found this tank works great over a basic long sleeve scoop neck.

This tie tank is perfect for layering or wearing alone.  I also love its sister tank which is the same style, but with an adorable polka dot pattern.

I’ve been wearing this Hampton widesleeve scoop neck top by Ella Moss with jeans all over the place lately.  The scoop neck with the empire waist tie allows this top to be loose but also flattering at the same time.  I also love this deep crimson color. I tend to pair this top with Splendid’s Very Light Jersey Draped Cardigan in white.

Easter Dresses are at Vintage Fringe

Easter dresses were as much a tradition in my family as decorating Easter eggs.  Now that I am older- the egg hunts may be over for me but I still love finding that perfect Easter dress to wear to church on Easter Sunday.  In my opinion there are some key elements to any Easter dress you wear.  First the color of your dress must be bright, and second your dress has to scream spring.  Below are some of my picks for the perfect Easter dress.

Splendid Modal Jersey V Neck Dress

Red Carpet Ruffles for Everyday

While Red Carpet fashion isn’t something I wear on a daily basis…I do try to see what celebrities pick to wear and glean some fashion trends from them.  This year the fashion magazines and I agree the major trend was ruffles.  Romantic Ruffles were  everywhere on the red carpets of the Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild Awards.  Below are my favorite best dressed celebrities and my own everyday translation to their style.

First the Golden Globes and the beautiful and every elegant Diane Kruger in a ruffled Pink gown by Christian Lacroix.

I first started noticing Diane Kruger when she played the face who launched a thousand ships as Helen in Troy.  Since then she has proven she has impeccable taste, especially on the red carpet.  I love this vibrant pink color which will no doubt be perfect for fall.  My everyday translation of this style and dress is this 4 Tiered Ruffle Tank by Sweet Pea.

Sweet Pea by Staci Frati 4 Tiered Ruffled Tank

Sweet Pea by Stacy Frati 4 Tiered Ruffled Tank

Sweet Pea’s signature lightweight and flowing fabric in this fuchsia color is a perfect everyday version of Diane’s red carpet look.  This ruffled tank can easily be dressed up or down and will make everyone look glamorous and trendy for spring.

My other favorite red carpet look was Glee’s very own Lea Michele and her green goddess dress designed by Catherine Malandrino

This plunging ruffled v-neck gown was gorgeous and oh so daring.  My interpretation or should I say translation of this red carpet look is the Aggie V-Neck Ruffle Dress in chive  by Ella Moss.

You can always count on Ella Moss to design fun and flirty designer dresses for spring.  While the v-neck is not as plunging as Lea’s red carpet gown that is probably a good thing.  This shorter striped dress has a wonderfully flattering empire waist and slanted stripe detail that is oh so flattering.  Win your own best dressed awards with these styles and more available at VintageFringe.

Summer’s Hottest Sweet Pea Tank Tops

Our vote for this summer’s Hottest Sweet Pea Tank Top is the criss cross tank.  Sweet Pea Tanks are light, breezy, and full of colorful fabrics that are the perfect answer to the summer heat.  This summer must have is colorful and features a unique criss cross in the front combined with the signature color pattern so unique to Sweet Pea designer clothing.  This tank also has the classic and always flattering empire waist along with an added length which makes this tank so easy to wear with anything for any body type.

I wear  this tank by itself with jeans, or layer it with a cardigan and it is perfect for a day of running errands or a night out!  The pattern features a great mix of navy, lilac, light blue, and fuschia colors.  The great colors combined with the length of this tank always looks hot with a set of dark jeans or even leggings.  Find this tank and others from Sweet Pea or our other great designers now at Vintage Fringe.

The Splendid Clothing line is all about fashionable and flattering clothing made from the softest and highest quality fabrics, which are almost always machine washable. One of my favorite versatile pieces this summer is the Splendid Cotton Slub Hoodie.  Made of Splendid’s french terry fabric, which is a great soft, sweatshirt fabric, this top can be worn as a short dress, swim cover up, or sporty top.
