Feminine Vintage Jackets

There is nothing better than finding that perfect vintage style jacket with feminine touches.  Many of us have one or two go toFeminine Vintage Jackets in our closets that we love to wear as the occasion calls for them.  Finding that perfect vintage style feminine jacket is often like finding a needle in a haystack, so when you find that prefect jacket you definitely want to make it work in your wardrobe for as long as you can.  It really is like finding a fabulous statement piece that you can wear for that special night out or party.

Consider the Cropped Bomber Jacket by designer Zooey by Alice Heller.  This jacket is truly a statement piece that blends vintage and modern elements.  With pockets in front, big buttons, and a cowl neckline, the bomber jacket brings a lot of great detail to a seemingly simple jacket style.  Of course, in my opinion, what really makes the Zooey jacket stand out is the arched hemline in back.  This accent really makes the jacket.   Giving the jacket a distinctive look, this detail in back makes the jacket a wonderful piece to accent variations in lengths and layers.  We love wearing this jacket with long tops or even tank tops depending on the season.  As you can see, with all of this detail, it is easy to wear this jacket as part of your entire outfit for the day and as more than just a jacket you wear outside.

If you are looking for longer length feminine vintage jackets this season, be sure to look for a great trench coat.  We’ve seen a variety of great trench coats this season.  The most popular look is a length that falls just above the knees and incorporates ruffles or added feminine details like buttons.   These jackets are truly timeless and with certain details can be brand new, but full of vintage style.   A good trench coat is really a must have jacket for spring and summer so every gal should have at least one in their closet.

This season the trends seem to encompass the full spectrum of lengths from longer lengths like the knee length trench to the cropped bomber jacket.  Cropped jackets should also be considered this season as a great vintage style trend.  We have seen many elegant cropped length jackets which remind us so much of the elegant vintage wraps worn in days gone by.

Finding the perfect feminine vintage jacket is a seemingly perpetual search, but we think you will find that there are some great new jacket styles that do incorporate great vintage style trends and modern looks. The vintage style look also allows you to create your own personal style.   Not to mention that you will want to find a few great staple jackets such as the trench and if you love feminine details you want to find the perfect trench for you that incorporates your favorite details.  Since jackets are truly investments in a good wardrobe and are frequently worn for several seasons, you will find that an extensive search is well worth it.

Dressing with Layers

Layers are everywhere this season and especially in colder temperatures layers are a great way to help keep you warm while still looking stylish.  You can create that layered look in a variety of ways, but there are certainly a few that stand out as our favorites at Vintage Fringe.

You can’t talk about dressing with layers without discussing wraps and cardigans.  They truly are such versatile pieces that help to bridge the gap between warm and cold weather practically all year round.  You can find wraps in all sorts of fabrics depending on how heavy you want them, but we suggest wearing a good cotton or jersey wrap that you can throw in a bag to have with you as the perfect option on a cold evening.  These wraps can also be perfect for traveling if you need something light weight to carry on a plane or in your luggage.  Wraps can be found in just about every color so there really is no excuse for not having at least one.  Currently you’ll see them with flared or wide open fronts as a popular look.  You’ll see wraps in cropped lengths which are great accents for dresses or other outfits.  We also love long wraps to pair with leggings and boots which seem to be my go to look for the winter this year.

Another essential piece when dressing with layers are long sleeve shirts.  Whether you like long sleeve tops or turtlenecks these are essential pieces if you are looking to layer up.  Long sleeve tops are perfect if you are looking to wear them under wraps, cardigans or even as is so popular under other short sleeve tops.  Turtlenecks are some of our favorite pieces to wear under certain sweaters and if you’ve seen the long sweater cardigans turtlenecks can be great basics to layer underneath.  At Vintage Fringe we have a variety of different styles of turtlenecks from solid colors to turtlenecks that are truly statement pieces, but in any case you shouldn’t overlook these basic long sleeve tops when you are looking to find ways to layer up in colder weather.

Finally another great piece to layer with are light jackets.   Our favorite jackets for layering include lightweight fleece or other jersey cotton.  Consider the Cropped Double Breasted Jacket by Zooey which is a great lightweight jersey cotton that is light enough to wear in warmer weather and also warm enough for fall weather.  We even wear it as a blazer during colder weather giving it added versatility.

Dressing with layers is really so much about function and versatility and giving you options depending on the weather, but despite all of these great reasons for layers you don’t have to sacrifice style.   You can easily find a variety of tops, wraps and jackets that will help you create your own individual style with a few great pieces that really help give your wardrobe a variety of options in addition to helping you fit in with the latest trends.

Black Bomber Jacket

A classic jacket style is the bomber jacket.  Modern twists on the bomber jacket have taken a typically masculine jacket and often convert it into something more feminine and fitted.  Many modern jackets featuring some elements of the bomber jacket in a variety of fabrics and styles.

One of our favorite modern twists on the classic bomber jacket style is the Jersey Bomber Jacket by Zooey by Alice Heller.  This bomber jacket is available in both black and navy. We love the fact that it isn’t leather the traditional bomber jacket fabric.  Since we are always searching for pieces that help you create your own individual style, we were thrilled that this jersey bomber jacket is truly a distinctive piece.  With a fold over collar if you decide to button it up all the way or a wide v neck type collar if you don’t.  My personal favorite detail is the back which arches up giving it a completely unique surprise in back.  Added modern, feminine touches include the oversized buttons, front pockets and a flared waist only in front.   This version by Zooey features thick cotton so it is thicker than your basic sweatshirt, but equally soft which makes it a pleasure to wear.

Another alternative to the basic black bomber jacket is a beautiful Motorcycle Sweater by Velvet by Graham and Spencer.  The Aspen Motorcycle sweater features an off center zipper all the way up to the top of the sweater.  Of course you can’t forget the added details with zipper pockets and epaulets on the shoulders.   This sweater still manages to be soft even though it is made with a wool nylon blend. This fabric of course makes it extremely warm!  With a cropped length, this sweater really does have a modern, distinctive look and is the perfect piece for winter weather.

We also can’t forget mentioning other jacket alternatives like the Cropped Double Breasted Jacket also by Zooey by Alice Heller.  The sister to the Black Bomber Jacket, this jacket features a fitted look with big buttons and a tie belt around the waist with belt loops.  With a wide collar and also available in Black and Navy, this jacket is the perfect piece for fall or warmer winter weather.  This jacket is also made with the heavy sweatshirt fabric that is so soft and machine washable.  This great alternative to the Bomber Jacket is a great modern spin on another classic look of the pea coat.

In short, we love finding great modern versions of classic vintage favorites like the bomber jacket or the pea coat.  These jacket alternatives are great examples of how many vintage elements are making comebacks in modern fashions.  The bomber jacket look will always be a classic traditional style of jacket and we love finding jackets that really bring those classic fashions to the modern shopper with twists of details that add a modern flair to really make each of these pieces statement pieces that will become some of your favorite ways to create your own individual style.
