Survive the Heat in Style

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

The temperatures are rising high enough for many to abandon all sense of fashion and jump right into the shorts and t-shirt look. Here are some great picks for tops and dresses that can keep you looking hot while feeling cool during these simmering summer months.

Tank Tops
The key to a cool tank top is to pick breathable fabric that is also washable.  Dreamy Designer Sweet Pea’s signature nylon mesh is a great choice for summer. Like this 4 Tiered Ruffled Ruffle Tank in rain (blue).

This tank if full of flirty fashionable details but is soft and comfortable enough you will feel free and easy in it.  This tank is perfect for an outdoor bbq or even a a hot day at the park.

One of Vintage Fringe’s newest arrivals is also a perfect pick for a hot summer day.  Collective Concept’s trendy Racerback Flared Tunic Top is a great example of California style summer clothing.  First this nuetral color is both trendy and smart for hot summer days.  This tank is loose but has so many flattering details like the beaded straps, tunic length, and racerback.  Wear this tank anywhere this summer and you will stay cool and oh so stylish.

Short Sleeve Tops

Splendid no doubt had hot summer days in mind when designing it’s Navy Slub Shadow Stripe Waist Tie Top.

The wide sleeves and signature jersey slub fabric makes this short sleeve top a great choice on a hot day.  I also love how Splendid infamously makes a clean and modern statement with color choices that are both flattering and classic.  Pair this top with khaki bermuda shorts or denim capris… the options truly are limitless.

Designer Dresses

On those scorching summer days summer dresses are the coolest choice to make.

I love love this Modal Jersey V Neck dress also designed by Splendid

You can feel cool and trendy in this adorable jersey dress in blueberry (light purple).  This dress has a flattering empire waist, is machine washable, and is the perfect length for a cool summer dress.

From tanks to tees and even dresses, being hot is no excuse for not being fashionably adorable.  Don’t miss Vintage Fringe’s Summer Steal’s Sale where you can get 30% off everything until July 28th.

Spring Color Trend: Jade

Friday, February 19th, 2010

Spring colors are always a welcomed thing to me, the darkness of winter is exchanged for bright, sunny, and what I call “happy” colors. Last fall, Chanel used a jade color nail polish on their models on the runway and launched an obsession with the color at the same time. Jade, or green is a great color for most people, you just have be be careful with the shade and tone of it, making sure it works for your skin tone. For spring i am loving this Tie Waist Hoodie from Spendid, perfect for a swimsuit{don’t worry we aren’t quite there yet} cover-up, a dress with leggings and boots, or as shown over jeans. It is very versatile and the perfect spring color!

Another great top in a slightly different shade of green is the Hamptom Hoodie by Ella Moss. I love the all the details and of course the green shade, which could easily go with so many other colors and patterns. It has a very relaxed look that is perfect for spring, especially with the longer sleeves for a bit more warmth, but in a lighter cotton that could transition to summer nights effortlessly.

Vintage Fringe has so many other really pretty and interesting tops in a shade of green, don’t forget that you can shop their site by color, love that! Now go have some fun and put on something other then black!

All about Shoulders and Sleeves!

Monday, February 15th, 2010
Bold shoulders and sleeves have been all over the runways, magazines, and celebrities this year. And for good reason, the updated version of the 1980’s shoulder pad trend is classy and accentuates{or tricks the eye to see} a small waist, it creates beautiful curves.  I love fashion, however it is just not practical for me to wear some of the more extreme sleeve and shoulder styles that celebrities have been spotted wearing{did you see Rihanna’s or Fergie’s spiked shoulders?}. So, for those of us with less red carpet events and more grocery carts in our lives, here are some cute ways to incorporate the bold shoulder and sleeve trend into your closet.
I love the vibrant color of this Scoop Neck top by Splendid, and the puffy, puckered sleeve really draws attention to the shoulder/sleeve area. There are so many great details in this top, and if you wanted create more curves, I think it would look fabulous belted.

The beautiful black and white damask print pattern on this short sleeve Deconstructed V Neck by Sweet Pea really draws the eye up and the double layer sleeve creates a more dramatic and bold shoulder.

Make sure to look for details in your tops, they will always draw the eye to it and if those details happen to fall on the sleeve or shoulder, they will accentuate that area. So what do you think, to spike or not to spike?? {Are Rihanna and Fergie completely mad or completely awesome??} Tell me what you think!

The best looks for right NOW

Monday, February 8th, 2010
Spring trends are on everyone’s mind, {lets be honest, most stores are rolling out swim suits this month!}but spring could be a ways off for some of you, so here are some looks that I love for right NOW. As mentioned in this post, ruffles are in and I love the chic gray color and slimming wrap detail of this Potina Top by Velvet by Graham and Spencer. Paired with dark denim and a headband accessory and the look is fresh and oh so appropriate for february weather. {I think I would love this top even more if I was holding the Borrealis bag, the colors would be so pretty with the gray of this top!}

Another look that I am loving is the slouchy, loose fitting boyfriend look, like this Boyfriend Buttonup by Splendid. This shirt exudes that laid back style, I love pairing it with lots of necklaces as shown for some unexpected glamour. As always, I love a good riding boot and this black pair complement and complete the entire look. If this isn’t quite warm enough yet, no worries just layer a bomber jacket, or long cardigan over it!

And lastly, for those of us that “winter” never really comes {I live in San Diego, don’t hate me!} this Ellasentials Cardigan Smock by Ella Moss is perfect. The shortened sleeve, open front and details at the shoulders and back all add charm to this closet staple. I love how this cardigan can eaisly be great for anything from running around town with the kiddos or dressed up for an evening out.

So, even though we are being bombarded with what is new and hot for spring, don’t forget to live and appreciate each moment! Look great right NOW while looking forward to wearing Spring 2010 trends. What are you wearing right NOW??

Classic Vintage Style

Splendid Clothing

Splendid Clothing

Vintage style has a host of meanings to different people.  In an effort to dispel the myth that vintage style refers to old lady clothes, at Vintage Fringe we have found many vintage styles that are far from matronly or stuffy.  One such example would be a new top from Splendid’s fall line that to us exemplifies timeless vintage style.  The vintage example a sweatshirt worn by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s looks adorable on her (no surprise there).

Timeless Vintage Style

Timeless Vintage Style

We couldn’t help but notice the similarity between this top and a couple of our new arrivals from Splendid.

They both even feature that classic sweatshirt V stiched in the center.  Of course at Vintage Fringe, we love the little details like that which bring meaning to the Fringe in Vintage Fringe.  In our opinion, the Splendid version is more sophisticated.  The newer versions from Splendid also feature a few distinctions such as flared cuffs and a more fitted look, but we’re sure you will agree that both of these tops pass the test of being timeless.  Not to mention that once you wear the Splendid top, you will be truly amazed by the luxurious feel of the fabric.

We find that such timeless tops will last beyond the quickly changing fashion fads.  As this vintage style illustrates, such pieces will never go out of style.   Plus when you feel the fabric you really won’t want to live without this top.

We currently have the Splendid Boatneck Long Sleeve Top available as shown in Coal (Dark Grey) and Russet (Orange).
