Classic Vintage Skirt

Skirts are really a summer staple in my closet and finding a great classic vintage style skirt is certainly a must have for your wardrobe.  True classic style skirts are timeless and never go out of style and best of all can be worn with so many different types of tops, sweaters and jackets.

Consider the Sintia Pencil Skirt as a classic style skirt that is part of designer Velvet by Graham and Spencer’s Gauzy Whisper collection featuring a light weight gauzy cotton fabric.  This skirt features cotton lining so it is not sheer and still manages to have a lightweight so that it is comfortable and also doesn’t look like a thick jersey fabric locking it into only being a casual piece.  This skirt can easily go from the office to running errands and comes with a high waist and with the cotton fabric has some give and stretch too it so it is very forgiving.  Despite this skirt’s great functional features, this skirt is a true classic pencil skirt that really is timeless.  We love finding vintage style pencil skirts in a variety of colors too which is a great way to add versatile choices for a classic and let’s be honest sometimes with classic vintage style pieces you can’t just have one because you don’t run into perfect pieces everyday.

This classic skirt is the everyday summer skirt that you really can never have enough of.  Perfect with flip flops or a blazer, this versatile skirt really Is a go to all purpose piece.  In addition, while it is great for warm weather, it will also work well practically year round.  It is also long enough and features a high enough waist that you have lots of added versatility with accessories like shoes and boots that are great ways to accent this great skirt.

Another great classic vintage style skirt is the Hilton Peasant Skirt.  The peasant style skirt is a great vintage style that is totally en vogue this season and is a great casual skirt that is great for spring and summer.   The Hilton Peasant skirt is a great example of the ever popular tiered skirt style.   This skirt features a wide waistband that can be worn up or folded down depending on your personal preference which provides this skirt with an added versatility.  The long length of this skirt hitting about half way between the knee and the ankle pairs well with the high waist line and the fitted waist gives it a flattering look.  Best of all this skirt is the ultimate comfort skirt, it is loose and comfortable making it wearable to practically any summer event and with ballet slippers or flip flops.

We’ve fallen in love with each of these different styles of skirts by designer Velvet by Graham and Spencer.  They are great examples of classic vintage style skirts that are totally new and modern fitting in with current fashion trends. Whatever style works best for your individual needs, you really can’t go wrong with either skirt as they are fashionable pieces that are sure to be a great addition to your closet.

Bohemian Chic Skirt

Summer skirts have really become an essential summer must have.  I love wearing them instead of capris or shorts in warm weather and because of this I love finding skirts that are versatile.  Finding a skirt that can be worn during the day and evening outings feels like such an accomplishment as inevitably I always find dressy skirts that are too dressy to be worn casually during the day or vice versa I find a casual skirt that can be worn casually, but not dressed up.  I always love finding skirts in different styles and you really do want to have a few great skirt options in your closet this summer.

The perfect bohemian chic skirt can be the perfect blend of stylish, versatile and comfortable and really should be a summer wardrobe essential. Bohemian chic skirts can come in a variety of styles and with a variety of designs and fabrics. Here are just a few of our favorite bohemian style skirts and all of them are from one of our favorite designers Velvet by Graham and Spencer.  Velvet is known for their great use of cottons and other great fabrics while also blending contemporary and casual styles creating great feminine wearable pieces.  Of course their designs are also high quality and are made in the USA an added bonus.

First the Lija Skirt.  This skirt is truly a perfect blend of a classic style with contemporary details like the raw edge and the high waist.  The skirt flares too which makes it feel girly and feminine on while also making it very comfortable.  This is a great go to skirt that can be worn out running errands on a weekend or with the right top and accessories dressed up and worn to a dressy occasion too.  Available in basic black, this skirt is a must have summer essential.

Next the Fanya Skirt.  Another flared skirt, but this with a diagonal stripe pattern and an asymmetric hem and a diagonal line across the waist for accent.  This skirt is a cotton tencel blend so it is the ultimate soft, comfortable fabric and easy to wear again for casual and dressy occasions depending on what you wear it with and how you accessorize it. I love the raw edges again at the hem and the stripe pattern that really does make this a distinctive skirt.

Finally, the Sintia Pencil Skirt is really a classic style skirt that is part of Velvet’s Gauzy Whisper collection featuring a light weight gauzy cotton fabric.  This skirt features cotton lining so it is not sheer and still manages to have a lightweight so that it is comfortable and also doesn’t look like a thick jersey fabric locking it into only being a casual piece.  This skirt can easily go from the office to running errands and comes with a high waist and with the cotton fabric has some give to it so it is very forgiving.

Whichever skirt best fits your summer skirt needs, you can’t go wrong with any of these bohemian chic style skirts.  They are a great blend of wearable and stylish which is our number one priority for great summer skirts.  Be sure and get yours today.

Tiered Skirt

The tiered skirt can take a variety of forms.  Whether it is the literally tiered layered skirt featuring multiple layers of fabric or the latest trend with the peasant skirts to have them look layered when they are really one fabric gathered to create a layered look.  The peasant skirt has recently gained in popularity and is a wonderful casual option for a spring/summer skirt.  Peasant skirts can really take a variety of lengths ranging from roughly knee length to ankle length as the maxi dress length has recently increased in popularity.

If you like the maxi skirt length, you will see a host of skirts with long length in either the peasant skirt look or in actually layered fabrics.  Personally, I prefer the peasant skirt look as it is not as heavy and is easier to wear.  The peasant skirt is the perfect casual skirt that works well for weekends or casual events.  You can easily wear these skirts with flip flops.  The peasant skirt is naturally very comfortable and a great all around occasion skirt.

The tiered skirt featuring layers of fabric can come in many styles including multiple fabric patterns.  I’ve seen this done with a bohemian style look and I must admit, it is not my style as it seems to overdo the pattern.  The layered skirt is, however, something that I could easily see a Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and the City wearing and I think she did wear similar style skirts in various episodes of the show.  It is a bold and often dramatic statement and can range from casual to very dressy depending on the fabric, length and style.

Of course with these skirts there are a few rules of thumb when pairing them with tops.  As a rule of thumb generally it is never a good idea to tuck any shirts in with these flared bohemian style skirts.  Of course there may be an exception, but by and large it is not a good idea.  We like pairing these skirts with looser fitting tops such as the Zooey ¾ length sleeve V Neck top or the Zooey Ruffle Bib Top.  These tops are looser fits and have subtle details that balance out the flared skirt.  You would also want to stay clear of wearing tops that are too long as with the long length of the skirts long tops do not look flattering.

Whatever style of skirt and top suits your individual style, having at least one tiered skirt is a great addition to your closet.  If you are looking for just one such type of skirt then I would suggest that you go with a peasant style tiered skirt.  I love the Hilton skirt by Velvet by Graham and Spencer as a good middle of the road skirt that has a good length and just enough detail to be comfortable and stylish.  These skirts are a perfect casual summer go to skirt for so many occasions and really do balance the wearability with feminine style.

Spring Trend: Boatneck Dresses

Every spring as the weather gets warmer dresses are at the forefront of our shopping searches.  This spring, one great trend that you may want to incorporate into your wardrobe are boatneck dresses.  The boatneck line is always such a classic, seemingly retro neckline that we see most predominantly in tops.   To be honest, when I think of boatneck tops, my first thoughts are tops with stripes that really draw you into a sailing motif.  That boatneck stereotype is blown out of the water with a few great examples of boatneck dresses.

First consider the Retro Boatneck Dress by designer Sweet Pea by Stacy Frati.  This dress in vibrant colors and a great retro pattern features black trim and a black tie around the waist.  The pattern of the dress features a mix of flowers in blues, pinks and purples. The style of the dress is a straight fit, but the tie around the waist helps make it more fitted.   This dress features a bolder look and really can be a statement piece for your wardrobe depending on your individual style.  We love the classy and elegant look of the boatneck and are glad to see it becoming a more prominent trend in dresses this season.

The Martha Boatneck Dress by designer Velvet by Graham and Spencer also features a boatneck line.  This dress has a gathered empire waist and a flared waist. It is a great spring summer dress and is made of baby jersey cotton so it is completely washable and comfortable to wear.   This dress in Greenbean is a great vibrant green color which works wonderfully for spring and summer.  We also love the look of the flared waist or skirt with this dress as it really does give a distinctive contrast to the boatneck at top.

Don’t forget to incorporate other great trends for this spring and summer like leggings which would pair perfectly with both of these dresses.  We’ve done previous posts on great ways to incorporate leggings so you can check that out for our tips on that fashion trend, but these dresses would be great complements with leggings.

If you are looking for other great ways to incorporate boatnecks into your spring and summer wardrobe consider pairing boatneck tops with pencil skirts or even flared skirts or A line skirts.   We love the Sintia skirt by Velvet by Graham and Spencer as a great must have for spring pencil skirts.  Don’t forget about the Lija flared skirt also by Velvet as another possible match for great spring / summer skirts.

Ultimately, you have to decide what styles and trends work best for you this season, but we love the trend of boatneck dresses and they will certainly be pieces you will want to be on the lookout for as you shop for spring and summer dresses.   The great classy look of the boatneck line is a great way to incorporate distinctive styles and trends into your wardrobe this season and looks classic enough that it won’t be out of style next season.
