Dressing in colder weather can make accessorizing your outfits much more of a challenge. Say no more as there are a lot of great ways to remedy the winter wardrobe blues and dress it up with jewelry. To balance out the heavier fabrics and layers you will want to find pieces of jewelry that are a bit heavier and bolder than some you might wear in warmer weather.
One jewelry trend that works great with heavy winter clothes this season are the big, chunky necklaces and earrings in great contrasting colors that help bring attention to your neckline and add a hint of femininity to it. Depending on whether you prefer warm or cool colors you may want to find great accent colors like reds, light blues or greens. Wonderful accent colors like jade green or even coral pinks that are very in style this season. Another great contrast color is white or ivory in large beads or stones. You can find a variety of different styles of necklaces in long or short lengths depending on what you prefer and what works best with your own individual style and wardrobe. Chunky necklaces work well with long sleeve scoop necks and can even work with other necklines that are popular in winter clothing such as turtlenecks. We love the look of classy long bold necklaces with turtlenecks in the winter.
Long necklaces are a great way to break up the look of heavy sweaters or cardigans in the winter and are also great ways to accent heavier tops. You’ll find a variety of styles of long necklaces that feature an oversized pendant on the necklace. These longer necklaces are a great way to break up the monotony of heavy textures and less skin that is characteristic of winter clothing.
Another great way to help break up the heavier winter textures is long earrings. They really do help to bring attention up to your face and help lighten up the winter clothing layers. Long hoops or other big earrings are my go to piece whenever I don’t have that perfect necklace to go with an outfit. Big earrings are a great way to bring a little more shine and sparkle to your winter wardrobe. We love the look of long dangle earrings with high necklines to help break up or spice up an outfit.
In short, the basic theme for finding the perfect jewelry to help accessorize any winter outfit is generally long lengths for earrings and necklaces and bold chunky pieces to help offset the heavy, thick textures and fabrics so prevalent with winter clothing. You will want to find good accent colors that work with your typical wardrobe pieces and will want to make sure that you have a few good staple pieces. When you can’t find the perfect necklace to go with your outfit you will want to have some good fallback earrings that help give your look that added sparkle and shine and help breakup the monotony of so many layers of clothes.
Layers are everywhere this season and especially in colder temperatures layers are a great way to help keep you warm while still looking stylish. You can create that layered look in a variety of ways, but there are certainly a few that stand out as our favorites at Vintage Fringe.
You can’t talk about dressing with layers without discussing wraps and cardigans. They truly are such versatile pieces that help to bridge the gap between warm and cold weather practically all year round. You can find wraps in all sorts of fabrics depending on how heavy you want them, but we suggest wearing a good cotton or jersey wrap that you can throw in a bag to have with you as the perfect option on a cold evening. These wraps can also be perfect for traveling if you need something light weight to carry on a plane or in your luggage. Wraps can be found in just about every color so there really is no excuse for not having at least one. Currently you’ll see them with flared or wide open fronts as a popular look. You’ll see wraps in cropped lengths which are great accents for dresses or other outfits. We also love long wraps to pair with leggings and boots which seem to be my go to look for the winter this year.
Another essential piece when dressing with layers are long sleeve shirts. Whether you like long sleeve tops or turtlenecks these are essential pieces if you are looking to layer up. Long sleeve tops are perfect if you are looking to wear them under wraps, cardigans or even as is so popular under other short sleeve tops. Turtlenecks are some of our favorite pieces to wear under certain sweaters and if you’ve seen the long sweater cardigans turtlenecks can be great basics to layer underneath. At Vintage Fringe we have a variety of different styles of turtlenecks from solid colors to turtlenecks that are truly statement pieces, but in any case you shouldn’t overlook these basic long sleeve tops when you are looking to find ways to layer up in colder weather.
Finally another great piece to layer with are light jackets. Our favorite jackets for layering include lightweight fleece or other jersey cotton. Consider the Cropped Double Breasted Jacket by Zooey which is a great lightweight jersey cotton that is light enough to wear in warmer weather and also warm enough for fall weather. We even wear it as a blazer during colder weather giving it added versatility.
Dressing with layers is really so much about function and versatility and giving you options depending on the weather, but despite all of these great reasons for layers you don’t have to sacrifice style. You can easily find a variety of tops, wraps and jackets that will help you create your own individual style with a few great pieces that really help give your wardrobe a variety of options in addition to helping you fit in with the latest trends.
Fall is our favorite season and largely because it isn’t too cold, but yet it is a nice break from the summer heat. We love the fall colors and mild weather and of course we love the chance to mix up our wardrobe and wear turtlenecks and long sleeves and boots. Fall fashion is another great reason to love fall and this season is no exception. Here are a few of our favorite fashion trends and pieces for this fall season.
Great colors- This season you’ll be sure to see a lot of earth tones and variations or combinations of colors. Again this season you’ll see a lot of purple. One big carryover from last season is the smoky purple color with hints of gray. We have a few pieces in this color from the Velvet by Graham and Spencer line with names for the colors like Smoke, Chimney, Soot, Stardust. These colors are always super popular and pair well with blacks and grays and are sure to work their way into your wardrobe in some form. Another great color that is relatively new to the scene this fall season is green. You’ll see lots of olive green and shades that are just a touch lighter than a hunter green with more blue tones. It is a great color and pairs well with browns and blacks.
Leggings – You may have held back on plunging into leggings because you weren’t sure if they had much staying power, but leggings are all the rage this fall. We recommend having a few in staple colors for sure and then mixing in your favorite complement colors as your wardrobe and budget dictate. We love the Swoosie legging by Velvet and have them in Black and Elm Grey which are great contrasting colors for purples, blues, greens reds, and even black. Leggings will fit right in with many of the tunic length tops or with dresses this season.
Turtlenecks – An everyday staple for Fall and Winter fashion we love the turtleneck and for fall we love the look of the elbow length sleeve turtleneck. A great example is the Velvet Coley turtleneck available in a variety of earth tones including a bold lemongrass color that is so in this season. We also love the AlixK Cappy turtleneck which features a gathered turtleneck which stays put perfectly so you don’t have to constantly be fussing with it. Of course we can’t forget to mention the great embroidery detail which gives this short sleeve turtleneck great contrast and additional texture.
These are just a few of our favorite trends this season for fall fashion. Fashion trends this season are so wearable and really versatile as many of them can carry into winter and even spring. At Vintage Fringe we always try to mix in a bit of these latest trends with some of the old to give you a classic, timeless yet modern look. Not to mention that just adding a few pieces into your wardrobe this season will be a great way to spice up your wardrobe without breaking the budget.
Zooey Turtleneck and Velvet Lucca Top
Another essential fall fashion this season is the turtleneck. In terms of necklines the turtleneck is one of my favorites. First of all, turtlenecks are universally flattering because they elongate your neck and place the focus onto your face. I also love how extremely versatile turtlenecks are. Wear a turtleneck with a suit, with a vest, with a skirt, with pants, or your favorite pair of jeans. Wear a chunky necklace or wear your favorite scarf, with a turtleneck almost anything goes. My absolute favorite turtleneck is the classic long sleeve turtleneck by Zooey. Perfect for layering, this top is shown here under the Velvet by Graham and Spencer Lucca tunic top in Drift. This turtleneck is made of supima cotton which is seriously one of the softest cottons I have ever worn. This turtleneck is simple, but perfect in every way. The length falls below the waist, the turtleneck itself is loose and soft so it doesn’t feel to tight around your neck or uncomfortable. This Zooey turtleneck comes in ten different colors, is machine washable, and is currently 50% off in our Vintage Fringe Outlet so hurry to Vintage Fringe and pick up your fall essentials now.
It’s no secret that we love Velvet Clothing and think their brand is right at the top of the list in terms of creating feminine style tops that are fashionable and comfortable all in one. In light of the the recent Inauguration and as a tribute to a fashion color trend that Michelle Obama made popular with her Inaugural outfit we want to highlight a top by Velvet Clothing that we currently carry in the Lemongrass color.
Velvet Clothing Coley Turtleneck in Lemongrass
Velvet’s Coley turtleneck top is perfect for this time of year as it is still too chilly to wear basic short sleeve tops, but the elbow length sleeve gives enough coverage to keep you temperate if you wear this under a blazer or jacket and yet if you have to take that top layer off, it still keeps much of your arm covered. It is a turtleneck, but not a tight one; it features a raw edge at the top, so it is looser than most turtlenecks and should just lay naturally.
This Velvet by Graham and Spencer top is perfect for the in-between seasons when it isn’t warm enough to wear short sleeves and tanks alone, but yet not cold enough to warrant a heavy sweater. Part of Velvet’s Gauzy Whisper collection this season, this light weight top is available at Vintage Fringe in Lemongrass as shown here as well as Cherrywood (Red), Sprig (Light Brown), and Brimstone (Grey). We love the lemongrass color because it is so sunny and unique. In addition, it is great for contrasting under black, grey and even navy. The Coley turtleneck is machine washable and the jersey fabric is super soft and so comfortable to wear!
Velvet Brand Clothing
We love Velvet Brand Clothing and this week we’re continuing our turtleneck series about the designers we carry with timeless turtlenecks. We wanted to highlight one of our favorites from Velvet by Graham and Spencer.
Currently one of our new arrivals, we love the look of the Velvet Catelina top featuring a turtleneck with additional accent details. The actual turtleneck is meant to be more akin to your traditional turtleneck with the foldover, but it isn’t tight or restrictive, it actually fits just right. In addition, we love the “fringe” details with the pleats around the neckline giving it a feminine touch and some added style. Part of Velvet Brand Clothing’s Baby Jersey collection, this machine washable baby jersey cotton feels so soft and is so comfortable to wear. We also love the length as it has long sleeves and the top falls generally below the hips depending on your body type. Currently available in Pink (Shown), Ivory (Soy), and Plum (Currant).
Zooey clothing features timeless turtlenecks that while they are generally timeless pieces for your fall and winter wardrobes, we also love the updated stylish twists designers like Zooey have incorporated into the modern, hip turtleneck. Even Audrey Hepburn made turtlenecks look fashionable!
Audrey Hepburn Vintage Style Turtleneck
Here’s what we love about the one of the different styles of turtlenecks that we feature at Vintage Fringe, today we’re highlighting the turtlenecks by Zooey. First we love Zooey’s loose version of the turtleneck. The turtleneck itself isn’t tight or restrictive, is actually a loose fit which allows it to just naturally fall around the neck providing a hip and stylish look.
Next, we love the length of all of these Zooey tops, they all fit well below the waist so you don’t have to worry about that uncomfortable feeling as your top crawls up throughout the day. Available at Vintage Fringe in a variety of colors including: black, brown, dark grey, grey, ivory, light grey, plum (shown) and white. All of these Zooey tops are made from an amazingly soft supima cotton; these tops wear well and are super comfortable.
